Closet Favorites

Several months ago, I posted about the Project 333 I was trying to do with my wardrobe.  I have to admit that I stuck to it pretty good for a few months but I may have broken the rule a little bit about not buying anything new and I may have pulled a few extra pieces back out of storage so my project was more like a Project503 (50 pieces of clothes for 3 months).

But..... This time I am doing better!  Winter seems so boring and gloomy to me so what better time to revamp my project!  And this time I did a little better planning and am really sticking to the rules!  I still have more like 40 pieces and I don't count shoes or jewelry but it's my version of the game so I get to make the rules right?

Some of the closet favorites are...

Jessica Simpson Kiss Me Super Skinny Jeans in black and dark blue... these are the BEST!  I wear them pretty much every day!

My other bottoms include a black skirt and my mustard skinnies.

I also found this perfect Cynthia Rowley dress at Belk a couple of months ago and added it as a staple!
CYNTHIA Cynthia Rowley Pieced Bodice A-Line Dress
I loaded my tops with mainly black, grey, and tans.  I also have a few red and some mint pieces to add a little color to the mix.

As far as accessories go, my scarves and boots are a MUST for the winter months!  I keep saying I am going to take pics of my stuff and use one of those fun closet apps to really get it all organized but ain't nobody got time for that it just hasn't made it to the top of my to do list yet! I will try to do a better job documenting this time!  I hope to look back on it down the road and not be like oh my word what was I thinking wearing that - but I am pretty sure my kids will be like skinny jeans? scarves? How uncool!

Taco Rolls

Jarrod commented the other night that I never make the same thing twice so last night for supper, I fell back to an oldy but goody with a little tweaking to it... Taco Rolls (originally taco ring or taco pie but I kinda combined the two).
- 1 can reduced fat cresent rolls (yes I know these are not 100% clean and nutritious but I have to have a little compromise for the famliy and I haven't had time -or want to-  to whip up my own dough)
- 1 lb ground beef (I used Kirkland Organic from Costco)
- 1 cup shredded cheese
- taco seasoning (I made this)
Heat oven according to cresent roll package.  Brown meat and drain fat.  Mix in taco seasoning.  Lay out crescent rolls and place a spoonful of meat and a little cheese in each one and roll up.  Bake about 10-15 minutes.  (Sorry I am a terrible recipe writer but hopefully you can figure it out).
Each roll is about 270 calories so I had 2 with a side salad.  The girls each had one and Jarrod had the other 4 so they must not have been too bad!

Veggie Vinegar Salad

I love this beautiful and delicious salad.  It is super easy to make and tastes great!  I originally made it to take as a side dish for Thanksgiving but I made another batch just for me to take for lunch this week.  The whole recipe is less than 500 calories so you can have a ton of it if you want or add a little something to go with it.  I divided mine into 4 storage bowls so I would have a quick lunch action to grab out of the fridge.

- 1 can each or 2 cups each of carrots, green beans, and niblet corn.
- 1 red onion sliced.
- 1 green bell pepper chopped
- about a cup of apple cider vinegar
- about a 1/2 cup of sugar (You can just kinda test the sugar and vinegar to your liking)
Mix together in a bowl and chill for about an hour!  It is soo yummy!

Weight Watchers!

So I have about 10 pounds that I would love to lose that I just can't seem to get rid of!  I feel like I constantly live on a diet with a lot of cheats.  I always try to be conscious about what I eat but I just need a little something to get the scales moving (down that is)!!
I have always loved Weight Watchers because I always do well on it and it is easy to stick to because you can eat whatever you want as long as you track it!  Everything in moderation, right?  So I am excited and motivated about starting back on Weight Watchers.  I feel like all of our suppers have been pretty bland lately trying to eat more clean so I feel like Weight Watchers will give me a few more options... plus I have a ton of delicious recipes pinned on my Pinterest that I have been meaning to try!
Getting skinny with it... nah nah nah nah nah nah nah!!

Today I Stop Keeping Up With the Joneses

"Keeping Up With The Joneses"
I honestly don't really know where that came from but we hear it all the time!  And sadly, I feel like live it...
I feel like I am THAT mom who is constantly trying to keep up with everyone else.  We have to have the nice house and the nice car and the nice clothes... yes very sad I know... but just being honest.  Don't we all want the best?  Don't we all want what our friends (or even more our frenemies) have?  It's just human nature.  And especially with social media, and everyone displaying their best things and their new toys and splattering all over our news feeds how wonderful and lavish their lives are (even though we all know most of it is not near as good as they make it seem).. it's hard not to want that to.
But today I stop!  I am comitting myself to stop comparing what I have to what you have.  It doesn't matter.  It doesn't matter who makes more money or who has nice furniture or a fancier car... it just doesn't.  My family is clean and clothed and fed.  We are healthy and have way more than we could ever need!  Very sadly, I have put what my family has and does above other more important things.  Just being honest here... I am so ashamed of what a priority I have made it to keep up with everyone else!
So today I make a concious effort to stop!  I honestly believe I will be much happier and content when I decide to stop doing that.  Just because you have a nice leather couch, doesn't mean I need one to.  My soft warm brown couch with marker and yogurt stains that we bought new two babies ago with cash is just fine.  So is my non-stainless steel fridge and my 100k miles Honda.  And it's really okay if we don't attend every single kid event that comes to town.  I don't think my girls will ever know that they only went to 3 Disney on Ice Shows this year instead of 5!
1 - Stop browsing Facebook so much.
2 - Stop comparing everything I have to everything you have.
3 - Stop... just stop!
4 - Be content... I have WAY more than I ever need and I actually do like the things I have!
5 - Christmas is coming... we don't have to have every toy and a bigger "Santa spread" than your kids!
I know it will be way harder than just saying I am going to stop but I am definitely going to try and stop myself.  My goal is a happier, healthier, more frugal life!
So today I stop Keeping Up With the Joneses.... they are broke anyways!

Confessions of a Preschool Mom

So I was reading Kelly's post over at Kelly's Korner this morning about her confessions of a new Kindergarten mom and I totally feel her pain... except for preschool which is probably not even as near as intense as K stress!
I feel so lost when it comes to preschool... is this okay to wear?  Did I send the right shape or the right special item to share?  Did I send the right form and money?  Is their a field trip today?  Does she have friends?  Am I the only mom who doesn't drop their kid off?  The list goes on and on and on....
I never knew I could be so lost when it comes to being a preschool mom!  I have to be at work early so my dad takes her and picks her up.  I feel like I am missing out on so much by missing out on that.  I feel like I don't really know what all is going on and so wish I could just be a little fly on the wall one day and watch how she interacts with her teacher and classmates.  Thankfully, Hadley has a very sweet teacher that keeps us updated pretty well and we get cute little calendars each month with all of the special activities on it but I still just feel so lost!  Maybe I will get the hang of it before next year...

My Girls

I recently read another story about another sick child struggling for her life.  I can not imagine the pain and struggle that a family with a sick child goes through.  It just breaks my heart to even think about it.  But what always amazes me about these families is the faith they have and share.  Faith that God will take care of them and heal them.  And the confidence that God has a plan for that little life.  I pray that I never ever have to experience that but if I ever do, I pray that my faith shines through!
I am sooooo thankful for two healthy children.  I saw one mother post about her sick daughter and she said that she is not hers.  She is God's child and she is just the one chosen to raise her for this time.  I need to remind myself of that often.  God gave me my girls to guide them and teach but truly they are his children!  He has just trusted me to take care of them for awhile.  I pray that they both live long after I'm gone and face as few struggles as possible in life but I know one day those struggles will come and I just pray that I can help them through it with God's strength!

Getting Ready for Disney

We are going to Disney World in November and we are all so excited!  We have been planning this trip for quite a while but now we are only a little more than a month away and the REAL planning has begun.  This is my first real Disney trip where it is not about me at all... this trip is 100% centered around our 4 year old little princess!  I can not wait to see her reaction to seeing the castle, riding the rides, and meeting Cinderella!
Disney has made it so you can pretty much have your whole trip planned by the minute before you even get there.  And there is sooo much planning that has to go into it that I have totally taken for granted every time I have been  (Thanks to my wonderful Disney loving Aunt Nancy who has always been our trip planner).  Between choosing where to stay, what parks to visit, how to get there, where to eat, and now even booking our fastpasses in advance, I am planned out already... not to mention the Disney outfits, packing list, and TinkerBell treats that are still on my to-do list!
I am really hoping to not "over plan" so much that we can't slow down enough to really enjoy every moment!  I know the girls will absolutely love it and I am soooo excited to get to share this special time with them!  I know all of the planning will be totally worth it in the end!

Menu for the week--

This week I have tried a few new recipes and so far, so good!  The girls and I went to Isom's last weekend for some fresh produce so I wanted to try some recipes to use some of those things in them!  I was also still stocked up on my Organic beef and chicken, rice, and canned tomatoes from my Costco run a few weeks ago.  So I put those ingredients in the search engine on MyRecipes.com (which by the way is really cool... you can search recipes by what you have on hand in your pantry).  I altered each recipe a little to make it fit what I wanted and they were all still great!  If you want the exact recipe with better instructions and ingredients list you will just have to search for them!

Monday:  Spanish Chicken and Rice
 - 1 lb chicken breasts, diced
- 1 small onion chopped
- 1 small garlic clove chopped
- 1 green pepper chopped
- 1 can diced tomatoes
- 1 cup chicken stock
- 1 cup rice
- 1 tbs olive oil
I browned the chicken in the olive oil for a few minutes in my pressure cooker uncovered.  Then I removed the chicken and added in the pepper, onion, and garlic.  After letting it simmer for a minute, I added in the rest of the ingredients and stirred in the chicken.  Set the cooker for 12 minutes and covered and turned it on.  I had a completed meal in about 20 minutes and it was delicious!

Tuesday: Chili Pie
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 can diced tomatoes
- 1/2 onion chopped
- Tablespoon of chopped garlic
-  1 Tbs Chili Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
- Jiffy Cornbread Mix
- 1/4 cup Milk
- 1 egg
I browned the beef on the stove top and then added in the other ingredients and let simmer for a few minutes while I mixed up the cornbread mix according to the instructions on the box (except I forgot my egg so I used a little oil and baking powder instead).  I poured the meat mixture in a baking dish and then topped with the cornbread mix and put in the oven for about 20 minutes at 400 degrees.  Jarrod added cheese to his but the girls and I both loved it without!  The recipe called for kidney beans added to the meat mixture but that just didn't sound good to me plus I didn't have any in the pantry so I just skipped that.  Yes I know this recipe wasn't completely clean but it still wasn't too bad.
Sorry forgot to take a pic!

Wednesday: Slow Cooker Apple, Butternut Squash, and Chicken
- 1 large butternut squash
- 3 apples (sliced and peeled -- I was lazy and didn't peel mine)
- 1-2 lb Chicken breasts or thighs
- 2 tbs butter
- 1 tbs olive oil
- some dried rosemary (I just dumped a little of it in there... I hardly ever measure anything)
Wednesday is dance day so I almost always fix supper in my crockpot on those days.  So I peeled and chopped the squash and apples up and dumped them in the pot with the other ingredients and mixed it up.  I put it on low for 6 hours.  My slow cooker (which is just one of the many features of my pressure cooker -- I am telling you I seriously use this almost every night)  automatically switches to keep warm after the timer stops so we got to come home to a nice warm ready-to-eat meal.

We have a busy Thursday and Friday night so will probably just eat sandwiches for dinner those nights.  I would post that recipe too but it is pretty complicated but I will give you a hint (bread, turkey, and cheese or bread, PB, and banana).  Oh yeah and for breakfast this week, we had yogurt with berries.  Next week we will switch that up to eggs and toast!  Lunch was mostly leftovers and snacks were apples and peanut butter!

Finally Friday!!

This week has been all whacked up for us!  Hadley has been going to cheerleader camp every night plus I have been super busy at work, hosted a friends baby shower, plus we haven't had a normal night home all week!  Luckily I am off every other Friday so hopefully have some time to finally catch up on some things!

One of those things being tagging my consignment items for Little Lambs next week!  I do this every year.... I start planning way ahead and have my items sorted and ready to tag weeks before they are due and then I wait until the very last minute to get them all tagged.  I am hoping that a few are still tagged from last time to save me a little but but I doubt it is enough to really make a difference.  I swear I am the world's best procrastonator but hey, at least it gets done right?
On another note, I am still loving my pressure cooker!  I made whole grain rice in about 15 minutes last night!  I put chicken in the crockpot and cooked the rice when I got home so we had a yummy healthy meal on the table in less than 20 minutes which was a great deal considering our busy busy schedule this week!

Looking forward to the weekend and praying my kids decide to go to bed early and sleep late!!!

Pressure Cooker

My dad sent me an email a couple of weeks ago about an electric pressure cooker he saw on TV so I started researching it and was amazed at all the great things I found about pressure cookers so we bought one to try!  We got the Power Steamer from Walmart.  It is the same as the one on the infomercial except for its way cheaper because you don't have to pay the $40 shipping and you can return it to Walmart without having to go through more hassle.  When I opened it, there was no power chord so we returned it and they gave us a new one with no problems at all.

So, once I finally got it home and hooked up with all the pieces, I couldn't wait to try it out.  Friday night, Jarrod and Hadley went to the football game so I decided to experiment a little.  I threw in some chicken breast, bacon, and a little bit of chicken broth and pressed the go button and walked away... 20 minutes later, I went back to find it all finished!  I then threw in a few pieces of broccoli and steamed them for about 5 minutes.  In less than 30 minutes, I had a complete delicious meal!  And the only clean up was rinsing out the pot and throwing it in the dishwasher.  Seriously it was that easy!  Saturday night, we cooked burgers in it.  Jarrod mixed his patty with a little cheese and I put some diced onion in mine.  We threw them in the pot and let them cook while we watched the Bama game.  They came out great a few minutes later and we were both really impressed with how good they were!  I have been busy pinning lots of more pressure cooker recipes I can't wait to try!

This was definitely a great purchase!!!

I officially have a new love.... COSTCO!! My Sam's Club membership expired back in July and I had debated whether to renew it or give Costco a try.  I have a few friends that just love Costco and brag on it all the time so I was really interested.  I had heard a ton of wonderful things about their clean and organic selections on everything!  So.... Living Social offered a deal this week for a $20 shopping card plus some other rewards when you purchase a membership.  Since I love a good deal, I decided this was my sign that I was supposed to join in on the Costco craze!  And....

I am so glad I gave in and joined Costco!  Their meats are all individually bagged and they have a huge selection of natural and organic meats so I loaded up on those.  They had a ton of great produce as well so I loaded up on some of it.  I also grabbed some frozen berries and smoothies that were all organic as well as some rice and seasonings that were also organic!  And best of all... I got it all without breaking the bank! I left there feeling like I had just been to the best party ever!  Definitely a great first experience!  I am so thankful with Costco, I can feed my family economically and healthy!  Win-Win!!

You can check out  the deal here!

Wardrobe Update!

I know it seems like all my posts have been about my closet lately but I am really loving this wardrobe project!  I am really trying to get creative and not buy anything at all!  So far, so good!  I have been trying to document every day but of course I have completely missed some days and I definitely need some work on my photo skills (I REALLY hate taking selfies) but I'm getting better!  So here are some of the outfits from the first 10 days!

My chambray shirt is by far my most favorite piece!  It is so versatile and can really be worn with anything!
I also really love my Nine West Julissa Pumps in taupe... I seriously wear them pretty much every day!  Not sure what I will do when it gets really cold because I LOOOOVE these!
I am also finding that my bottoms choices are perfect!  The black pants and dark skinny jeans are great for every day because they can be dressy or casual!

It's officially football season here in Alabama! Which means our weekends consist of high school games on Friday night and college football all day Saturday which will usually consist of some type of get together with friends!

I was sooo proud of our nephew Eli Friday night! He did sooo great and Elkmont won! And the girls had a great time cheering along with everyone else!

On Saturday, we got up early and finally got to have our yard sale we had been attempting to have all summer! It was a lot of work but I did make a little money! After the yard sale, we went to some friends house to watch the Bama game. Even though it rained all afternoon and made the satellite go out for most of the second half, we still had a great time eating football food and hanging out with our friends!

After a busy weekend, I am VERY glad for a day off work to spend at home!

To the ends of the earth...

My sweet friend Courtney is leaving on an 11 month mission trip in a few days with the World Race Organization.  She will be going to 11 countries in 11 months with nothing but a backpack!  I am so excited for her and can't wait to see what God has in store for her.  I am so proud and impressed with Courtney for following God's will for her life and going to the "ends of the earth" to share God's love.
Luke 9:23 says  "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me."  Courtney is doing just that and I am so amazed at her bravery and sacrifice to give up a year of her life to do this!
I am so excited to follow Courtney's journey throughout this next year on her blog page!  You can check it out at http://courtneynaylor.theworldrace.org/.  You can also help contribute if you feel led to!
Best of luck to you Courtney!  You will be in our prayers!!

Chore Time

I feel like I spend a whole lot of time cleaning my house and yet, it is never clean!  Considering I have a 4 year old who loves her Barbies and all their little accessories and a toddler who loves to make piles and throw things away, and not to mention a husband who tends to empty his pockets in the most random places, I have little stuff strewn all over my house!
I found a 30-minute cleaning chart that was aimed to help get your house clean in just 30 minutes a day but I tried it a few days and it just didn't work for me.  So I recreated it to better fit my own needs.
 - Meal Prep for the week
- Linens
- Vaccuum
- Sweep
- Dishes
- Pick up Bedroom
- Laundry
- Mop
- Dishes
- Pick up Girls' Rooms
- Dust
- Dishes
- Pick up Playroom
- Laundry
- Bathroom Counters
- Kitchen Counters
- Dishes
- Pick up Living Room
- Grocery
- Yard Work
- Project
I usually start a load of laundry as soon as I get home and it takes me about 2 loads to get caught up.  I try to do most of the other ones after the kids go to bed about 8:30 before I pack their bags and get ready for the next day.  Of course there are times when I have to get off my schedule some but I really try to leave the weekends free so I can catch up then if I need to.  But best of all, it keeps me from getting overwhelmed by the huge mess my house can get in and I have to spend a whole day or two to get it cleaned up... a little each day is soo much easier!

Spirit Day

College football season kicks off this week so here in Alabama, people are more excited than a kid at Christmas!  So our pastor asked everyone to wear their favorite team colors and have a Spirit Day at church Sunday.

There was lots if crimson, a hefty amount of yucky orange and blue, some purple and gold, and even a little bright ugly orange! It was a lot of fun and I was really impressed with how many people participated!

Of course the Harrison's proudly sported crimson and houndstooth!! ROLL TIDE!!

Too bad it is nearly impossible to get a decent picture but these two Bama cuties are just so stinkin cute!

Living With Less - Clothes

So I already posted about the Project 333 I am participating in.  Well I have a small confession... as I went to clean out Jarrod's closet he threw a fit about getting rid of all of his stuff so he got to keep most of it (including the 12 pairs of blue jeans he swears he wears).  And well the girls had a few things I just couldn't let myself part with but I am going to go back through and purge again to get it to match their lists because they seriously have waaay too many clothes.  But the most important thing is my closet.... It really only has 33 (not counting a few pieces of simple jewelry I usually always wear).  I created a "draft" of what it should be.. a.k.a. the ideal list on my last posts... then I started going through my closet and got it to about 45-50 pieces.  I thought okay good job but then I shamed myself for cheating and went back to the drawing board and really recreated my list to get it down to these 33 items:
1 - 5 -Black Pants, Dress Jeans, Black Skirt, Casual Jeans, Jeggings
6 - 7 - Crimson/tan Dress,  Blue Lace Dress
8-21 - Chambray Shirt, White sheer shirt, red flowy shirt, pink silk shirt, white blouse, lace tank, cream lace shirt, black long sleeve, black ruffle tank, gold embellished shirt, tan flowy shirt, grey/white striped tshirt, white button up
22- 26 - cream cardigan, blue cardigan, red cardigan, mint cardigan, jean jacket
27 - 32 - tan pumps, black heels, black sandal, taupe sandal, taupe boots, brown flats
33 - brown belt
A few other edits I had to make --
-- I completely forgot about my boots when I made my first list considering it was like 100 degrees that day so I had to go back and add them.
-- I really wanted a casual skirt but I never could find one I liked so I scratched that one.  If I ever come across one I love, I may just have to swap something out with it but just doing without for now.
-- I don't really like scarves or chunky jewlery so I haven't counted any of that... I may very rarely sneak in an extra necklace or scarf but I just don't feel like I wear them enough to even count!
-- I must confess that I did go out a buy a few new pieces but I promise I got some good deals on them!
-- I REALLY need a full length mirror so I can document my outfits when I wear them!
Okay soo... that's my closet and I am sticking to it!!!

Friday, August 22, 2014

I feel like my days have gotten so busy lately and I have been in an "I don't want to do anything productive" mood.  I feel like my house is a mess and the laundry is backed up.  Our meals have been blah and my grocery shopping has been scarce.  Hadley has pretty much cut out her afternoon nap so bed time seems to be getting earlier.  She has been asleep by about 8:30 every night which is really nice except for that good hour I have to get everything done after the kids fall asleep has pretty much turned into me being like I am just going to bed early myself!
Anyways... I have been reading about a lot about closet capsules and project 333  lately so I am hoping to clean out and get my closet organized for the next season this weekend.  I have done really good this summer with my 30 in 30 (which was more like 45 or so but whose counting) and am excited about trying to do this simple wardrobe for fall as well!  Fall can be kinda tricky though because of our hot weather stretching well into September and sometimes even on into October!  It's hard to pull off your super cute boots in 85 degree weather!  I am thinking I am going to try and step the accessorizing as well!  Luckily I am not a huge shoe girl so I can save a few pieces on that and spend on an additional top.  And I am also somewhat shying away from dresses so much... I will probably bring more of those back in the winter months when I can wear them with my leggings!  Guess we will see how this goes! I may even try it with the girls' closet because geez they have way too much!

My bed is full but my heart is fuller...

Every few nights I tend to wake up with some little body part in my face or neck or back.  Both of my girls have always been pretty good sleepers until a few months ago.  Hunter Claire decided she no longer liked her crib and was waking up several times in the night and screamed when I would try to put her back in her crib.  I have never been a fan of the "cry it out method," in fact, I absolutely hate to hear my kids cry and would never be able to sleep with a crying baby in the next room.  So every time she cried, I got her out and walked or rocked or laid her down in the bed with me **OOPS**  Well HC decided she loves the big bed and then absolutely refused to go back to her crib.  So... we got her a twin bed and she sleeps sooo much better in it!  However, she has learned that she can get out of her bed by herself and come crawl into my bed.  Hadley has already mastered the houdini sneak in the bed trick (you know the one where she very quitely sneaks into our bed without waking anyone up because she learned that if she wakes me up and gives me a half heart attack from being awaken with a face staring very closely to me that I will make her go back to her bed).  Sometimes if I find them in my bed, I will pick them up and gently put them back in their beds but sometimes I just let them stay!

Anyways... all that is to say that some nights I wake up with a VERY full bed!  But I love those nights because I know that one day they will no longer want to sneak into the "big bed" and snuggle with mommy and daddy.  It makes me so sad to think that one day, there will be a last time that they sneak into my bed and scoot real close.  And I am so sad that that day will come all too soon!  I love the mornings when I have to sneak around in the dark because they are sleeping so soundly in my bed.  My heart is so full of love for these two little sleeping beauties and I love the fact that they find comfort in being close to mom and dad at night.  It may sound crazy, but I wouldn't trade a minute of sleep for these precious moments that go by way too fast.... I can catch up on my sleep when they are grown (tear tear).

Fun Fun!!

We have had such a fun weekend! Jarrod's sister works for TVA and every year they have a huge weekend long company picnic full of lots of fun events.

Friday night they rented out a bowling alley and arcade place for everyone so we went there and had so much fun acting like we were 12 playing skee ball, race cars, and attempting to shoot pool (which I am absolutely terrible at).

They also have a softball tournament and Jarrod and I got recruited to be on their softball team and we had so much fun! We played five (yes five) slow pitch games! I was so afraid I was going to get hurt but thankfully nobody did!
I hate to brag but I was so impressed with how well Jarrod and I did considering we haven't touched a ball or bat in a few years! And our team even won the championship!! It was so much fun!
Saturday night, they have a nice dinner and fun dj for everyone. So we got dressed up and enjoyed a fun night with some new friends!

I am so thankful we get to enjoy some fun grown up weekends but miss my babies when we are gone and notice myself talking about my girls all of the time! Luckily they had a good weekend being spoiled by aunts, grandparents, and cousins! We got lots of sweet pictures of the girls having a big time while we were away!

Preschool, Here She Comes!

Today was a huge milestone in Hadley's little life... the first day of preschool at Little Tots! I cannot believe my baby is old enough to be starting preschool.  We have been really talking up preschool a lot over the last several weeks hoping to get her excited about it.  We went Monday night to orientation to meet her teacher and get some paperwork.  They also sent home a little paper doll to decorate like her to bring on the first day so we did that last night as we got everything together for the big day! She was so excited about packing her new backpack (even though she already complained about homework making her arm hurt.. Let's pray she never gets in trouble and has to write sentences).

I took off this morning so I could take her on her first day and make sure we got all the important first day of school pictures (you know the one with the chalkboard and backpack like all the other moms have been posting of their kids).

When I got there to drop her off, she said "I think I am kinda nervous" and started wiping her eyes like she does when she is trying not to cry so I was thinking oh no!  I quickly reminded her that it would be okay and she would have lots of fun and get to play!  After a few minutes in her new classroom with her sweet teacher, she was okay and I left and went and sat in my car and cried!

I never thought I would be one of those moms that cries on every first day of school or special event in my children's lives.... but I am!  It just makes me so sad to think of how fast these precious days are going by and I feel like I am missing out on so much with my girls!  But I am so thankful for every precious memory with my babies and excited about of all the many firsts that are yet to come!  I pray that she has a great day and am sure I will worry about her every minute today while she is there!

I am so excited that my friend Leslie introduced me to Jamberry Nails!  It is by far my new favorite thing.. vinyl nail wraps that are easy to do and look great!  With my busy house full of girls, these are the perfect find for us!

I am not creative at all and am absolutely terrible at painting my nails, but with Jamberry nails, all I have to do is pick the design I want and apply them to my nails.  It only takes a few minutes and is seriously so easy to do!  And costs way less and takes less time than going to the salon to get my nails done - which I never do because that requires finding a sitter, spending lots of money, and taking away a few hours from everything else I need to be doing only to have to go back in a few days to have them redone!

They even have adorable Jamberry Juniors for little girls to and matching Mommy and Me sets!  Hadley is such a girly girl and always wants her nails painted but they come right off within a day but these Jamberry nails actually stayed for several days on her.  And the very best part is once you apply them, there is NO DRYING!!  No more polish strown all over my house because of little girls that can't sit still long enough to let their nails dry!

I am so excited to be consultant for Jamberry nails and can not wait to share my Jamberry love with everyone else!  You can check them all out here!

Babies Babies Everywhere!

guess we are officially in that season of life where all of our friends are between the ages of 24-30 which for the majority of people raised in the South means the years where you have graduated college, married your soul mate, and have babies!  I have so many friends who have little ones or newborns or one on the way.  Honestly, I have constantly had at least a few friends who were pregant, are pregnant, are trying to get pregnant for the past two years!

It is so fun and exciting sharing all the joys of pregnancy and new motherhood with my closest friends!  I love sharing been-there-done-thats of my parenting uh-ohs and victories with my friends and watching as they learn the ins and outs of parenting little ones to.  It is so much fun to share this season of life together.  There is nothing in this world like the feelings that come with seeing that first positive pregnancy test, waiting on your babies arrival, and finally getting to hold that sweet new baby in your arms and I still get just as excited for my friends as I did my own!  But as much as I enjoy sharing these times with my dear friends, it also makes me so sad to know that I will probably never get to experience those feelings myself again.  I am so happy and content with our sweet girls and our family of four but I believe every mother will always miss the joys of having a new baby.  It's like a little part of motherhood that you will always miss whether you have 1 child or 20!  And I am sure in 5 or 10 years from now, when my kids are in school and involved in all of their activities, I will look back on this time of raising little ones and ache for it the same way!  But each season with my children just gets better and better and I am so excited to share each one with my friends sharing stories, advice, fears, tears, smiles, and laughs!

Weekend Wrap Up

What a fun weekend we had these past few days!  Jarrod went to a men's conference Friday night so I invited some of the my old and new friends over for pizza and some girl time!  We had so much fun catching up on everything and just chit chatting about fun times and people in our past while the little ones played.  I have missed some of them so much and it is just so great to get to spend time together.  I hope we get together more often in the near future!
Saturday morning I had to take Barney to the groomer so I dropped him and then headed to town BY MYSELF which very rarely happens so I definitely took advantage of the opportunity and took my time and piddled around several stores.  I stopped by a great little kids consignment store and scored a ton of great things for the girls for the next few months!  I got lots of smocked and Kelly's Kids and didn't pay more than $10 for anything!  I love consignment!  My kids may never wear new stuff again.  After that, I ventured on to the grocery store and took my time strolling the aisles making sure I actually got everything on my list.
Saturday afternoon we went to swim and to a family Back to School Party at my mom's house.  Our family started this tradition back when my mom started Kindergarten and there has constantly been someone in school every year since so it has continued for 50 or so years now!  We just get together and eat and buy all the kids some school supplies.  This year we had one in college, one in high school, one in middle school, one starting preschool, and two going back to daycare!  We have at least 17 more years with someone in school so I don't see this fun tradition changing anytime soon!
Sunday we went to church and then ate lunch at Jarrod's parents.  His dad is having hip replacement surgery on Tuesday so we got to enjoy some time with him before he is down for a few weeks.  We have a busy busy week coming up so it was nice to have a somewhat low key weekend!

Sorry! Pictures are still sitting on my camera!

Water Recipe

I have heard about a billion times that the key to everything healthy is drinking water... it makes your skin clearer, it makes you skinnier, it makes your hair prettier, it makes you happier and wealthier.  I am not a big water drinker.  I fix a huge glass on my desk every day and it really just sits there mostly.  I might have half of it gone by the end of the day.  So I found this really good water recipe on Pinterest (yes I know calling it a water recipe is goofy but I couldn't come up with anything better).  So I made this drink and I have already had 3 whole glasses of it today!!  It is seriously delicious!  I get water and something sweet at the same time!
I use my big Tervis tumbler and put in 6-8 frozen strawberries, 1/2 a lemon, and a few mint leaves and then fill with ice and water!  It's that easy!  And it even looks pretty!
I am really trying to jump back on the healthy eating bandwagon.  This whole month I have pretty much ate whatever was in site... french fries, cookies, chicken fingers, COKES... and I really do feel like crap.  I feel blubbery and my skin is terrible and considering I have not changed anything else about my skin care routine, I know it is my greasy fatty diet that has caused it all!  So back to healthy eating it is!  Out goes the greasy fatty processed foods, in goes the healthy nutritous veggies... and the water!

Happy Birthday Mee Mee!

Happy Birthday to my Mee Mee! She is definitely one of the most special women in my life! I am so extremely thankful that I have been blessed with two wonderful grandmothers that are everything grandmas are supposed to be... Kind, loving, sweet, precious ladies who really love their kids and grandchildren more than anything!  So very thankful for their love!

Baby Names

I was reading some of Kelly's Korner's older SUYL posts and ran across one that was baby names!  I love names... Sometimes I wish I had about 10 kids just so I could name them all of the wonderful names I love (guess I will just have to get some fish instead and name them).  There were three things that were very important to me when naming my kids:
1 - Do not just call them by their middle name.  Thankfully my mother was smart enough to call me by my first name but I have seen so many of my friends and family who are "middle namers" struggle with this their whole lives!  I still don't know what my poor grandmother's name is because half the people call her by her first name but the other half call her by her middle.  And I feel so bad for the kids at school that always have to correct the teacher because on the roll of course they are listed by their first name and oh my the struggle that a middle namer has to go through to get their name changed after marriage!  So, rule number one was no going by middle names!
2 - No misspelled or made up names.  One thing I can't stand is a normal name spelled crazy.  That is just asking for confusion for that poor child and just trouble and problems throughout their life because nobody knows how to spell their mispelled name!
3 - A normal name that is not too popular.  I wanted something that is classy and can stay with them their whole life.  Not a name that makes people make a funny face when they hear it or say "um where did that come from"?  But, I also didn't want them to have the same name as every other kid in their class like the Brittanys and Jessicas in my class.
Baby #1 - Hadley Elizabeth
Jarrod actually named Hadley.  I had always had a list full of baby names for my children before Hadley came along and of course that name was no where on the list.  There is a hunting camp Jarrod wants to go to named Hadley Creek and oneday he was talking about it and was like that would be a pretty name and I was like of course!  It met all my "name rules" and I didn't know any other Hadleys so it was perfect.  Elizabeth is my middle name and has always been one of my favorite names.  I quickly fell in love with Hadley Elizabeth and it fits her so well.  I honestly don't even remember the other names we discussed before Hadley.
Baby #2 - Hunter Claire
Nobody ever warned me how much harder it is to name the second child than the first!  Especially when it is of the same sex!  I wanted an H name that didn't sound like Hadley or end in an "ey" sound and of course still wanted it to meet my other name rules.  I wanted Harlow and Jarrod said NO WAY and that it was totally out of the question.  He wanted Harper Jo but I said it was way too popular.  So we went back and forth for awhile and got no where.  I have always loved the name Claire but I really wanted an H name so I couldn't use it either.  Hunter was a family surname and was always on my boys list but I had never really considered it for a girl even though I do love boy names on girls.  So we decided to put it with Claire and go with the double name (which I also love).  I am in love with Hunter Claire's name although it drives me a little nuts when someone just calls her Hunter ... yes I am going to be THAT mom that always corrects you when you don't call her both names!
Like I said before, I wish I had about 10 other kids to name to... Keenum, Hollis, Lane, John Ross, Harlow, Ruth Anne, Laura Glenn, Anne Catherine, Jeanne Frances... but I highly doubt that happens so I will just dream on about all the lovely names out there!
