It's time to get serious...

I have exactly ten weeks until my first half marathon and I feel like I have such a long ways to go to be ready for it. Not gonna lie.. January has been tough for me. I have a super hard time getting motivated to run when it's cold and I don't really care too much for the treadmill. Plus I've been super lazy on my eating habits and have rekindled my addiction to French fries and candy.

So... Tomorrow I am getting serious. I have ten weeks to train hard and fuel my body with better nutrients.  I really want to not only finish the half, but I want to finish strong as well and that's just not going to happen sitting on the couch eating Reeces cups (but man aren't they good?!?).

I've got my calendar full of running plans, my kitchen full of nutritious snacks, and a Pinterest board full of recipes all ready to go for the next few months! Looking forward to putting my best foot forward and hoping I can keep up this motivation!

Peppa Pig Live!

My girls and my niece all looooove Peppa Pig so my mom bought them all tickets to go see Peppa Pig Live for Christmas!  They were so excited to finally get to go after talking about it for a few weeks.  We all had a great time singing and dancing along with the little British animals.  Such a fun little girls night out!

PS  -- I promise HC had more fun than she looks like she had in these pictures!  She did smile!

Quite and Still

I know I have mentioned a number of times about my morning quite time routine but it is just such an important part of my everyday life that I can't help but share about it. Honestly, the early morning hours before everyone wakes up is the only time I get to myself to just sit in the quite, drink my coffee, and spend time with God.  The rest of the day is just so filled with so much other stuff going on.  Between work and dinner and chores and bed time routines, I just don't get any time to myself to just sit in a still quite room and listen.

This morning quite time makes a huge impact on my whole day and I highly encourage everyone to carve out a little time of your day to just sit in the quite and spend some time with God.  I personally just like spending the time focusing on a couple of verses each day and praying for whatever is on my mind at the time.... Nothing fancy. Just me and God. When I hear a verse that sticks out to me, I jot it down in the back of my Bible and go back and study it during my morning quite times.  Starting my day in God's word gives me guidance and encouragement to take with me throughout my day and I find myself being slower to anger, more compassionate, and just in a better mood all together.

If you don't know where to start, there are a ton of Bible study books and apps out there to help you.  My personal favorites are the Jesus Calling books and the You Version Bible app.  The app has a ton of different Bible study plans that you can choose from to follow each day.  If you are not a "morning person" try finding some time throughout the day or before bed but I just love the stillness of the early morning hour the best. I promise you will find that starting your day off like that will make your whole day turn out better!

Snow Day!

Hadley has been asking since about Halloween, when was it going to snow.  Today, she finally got a inch or so of a "winter miracle" as she called it.  She also claimed it was the "most fabulous thing" she's ever seen and told us all Merry Christmas!  Snow is always so beautiful and pretty impressive to us all but I love how magical it seems to little eyes.

It was super cold but we managed to get out and play for a few minutes this afternoon.  The girls had a blast!

My Girls

I was blessed with two of the most fun-loving free-spirited little girls there ever was.

They are both so full of energy and excitement.

They can tend to be as strong-willed and hard-headed as they come at times.

And they definitely keep me on my toes.

They are independent and confident and march to the beat of their own drums.

But I couldn't imagine my life any other way than being a mom of two little girls so full of life!

First, I want to apologize for this little modge-podge of ramblings below.  But I recently read something the other day that just really caught my attention.

I read a blog post that said "The reality of it is... You can't pick and choose when you want to be a parent and when you don't."

When I signed up to be a mom, I signed up for a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week job.  My kids are my responsibility and my daily decisions pertaining to my children will play a huge role in who they become one day.

And nobody ever said that choosing to be a parent was an easy job.

Sure it is easy to be a parent when your kids are playing quietly together in their room, the laundry without any stains is folded, your husband is cleaning up the kitchen after the healthy meal you just served to your children who actually ate it, and you are sitting in your bubble bath reading your book.  Being a parent is not quite as easy when they are throwing a fit over their pants you picked out, or running a fever with a stomach bug, or acting out in the middle of public place with everyone watching because you wouldn't let them have a piece of chocolate.  But the fact of this is that we don't get to choose which of those times we want to be parent.

Parenting comes with both the good and the tough times.

Parenting isn't about dressing your child up in cute clothes and posting their pictures on social media.  It's not about babysitting them with the iPad or giving in and giving them a cookie before supper because they want it. It's not about shipping them off to grandmas every weekend because you like to go out with your friends or letting them stay up past their bedtime because you just don't want to fight their procrastination.

Parenting is about spending quality time with your child and showing them that they are loved.  It is about teaching them right from wrong and that things don't always go their way.  It is about giving your child the attention they crave from us. It is about taking care of them and nurturing them and doing all those things even if you are tired or the game is on or you are catching up on your Facebook.

Our kids crave our praise and attention more than anyone or anything.  We are their super hero and the one they admire the most.  What better praise is their than to be praised by the one who you think hung the moon?  The best way that I can show my kids that encouragement and attention they crave is by spending quality time with them.  Giving them my undivided attention and showing them that I really care.  Put the phone away.  Put the distractions away.  And spend that time with that little one just begging for your undivided attention.

You only get so many moments with your kids.  Time flies by and before we know it, they will be out on their own.  I will never again have this time at this moment at this stage in life with my kids.  Play together. Travel together. Read together.  Even, just sit together.  Choosing to be a parent was one of the best decisions I ever made and I just pray that I look back on this time with joy and thankfulness for the precious moments we didn't waste.

Welcome to the World Hensley!

I was so glad to get to finally meet sweet little Hensley Lane today! My cousin Megan has been one of my very best friends over the years and I am so thrilled for her and Dustin to be parents! I know they are going to be wonderful parents and can't wait to watch Hensley grow and play with my girls.

Good Good Father

Pretty sure Good Good Father by Chris Tomlin is my new favorite song.... Sometimes a song can just say so much than I ever can.... What an amazing Heavenly Father we have!

Click the link below to check out this beautiful song!

"Oh, I've heard a thousand stories
Of what they think You're like
But I've heard the tender whisper
Of love in the dead of night
And You tell me that You're pleased
And that I'm never alone

You're a good good Father
It's who You are, it's who You are, it's who You are
And I'm loved by You
It's who I am, it's who I am, it's who I am

Oh, and I've seen many searching
For answers far and wide
But I know we're all searching
For answers only You provide
‘Cause You know just what we need
Before we say a word

You're a good good Father
It's who You are, it's who You are, it's who You are
And I'm loved by You
It's who I am, it's who I am, it's who I am

Cause You are perfect in all of Your ways
You are perfect in all of Your ways
You are perfect in all of Your ways to us

You are perfect in all of Your ways
Oh, You are perfect in all of Your ways
You are perfect in all of Your ways to us

Oh, it's love so undeniable
I, I can hardly speak
Peace so unexplainable
I, I can hardly think
As You call me deeper still
As You call me deeper still
As You call me deeper still
Into love, love, love

You're a good good Father
It's who You are, it's who You are, it's who You are
And I'm loved by You
It's who I am, it's who I am, it's who I am

You're a good good Father
It's who You are, it's who You are, it's who You are
And I'm loved by You
It's who I am, it's who I am, it's who I am
You're a good good Father

You are perfect in all of Your ways
You are perfect in all of Your ways
You are perfect in all of Your ways"

Capsule Wardrobe for the Kids

So I have recently discovered I have a problem.  And as much as I hate to admit it, I am going to have to do something about it.  It is going to be a struggle to overcome but I am ready to deal with it and take it on whole-heartedly. I have too much love for sweet kids clothes.  And that love leads me to buying them... a lot of them... which leads to a closet full of clothes that rarely get touched.  I love consignments and a good online deal but I way over buy!  I can't believe I am actually telling anyone this but one time, I was being super busy and super lazy and I went for almost three weeks without doing the girls' laundry!  Three weeks!  And they never ran out of clothes in their closets!  How sad is that?!?! That's really embarrassing actually.

I got to thinking about it all.  Over the last couple of years, I have been doing seasonal capsule wardrobes for my closet.  I limit myself to about 30-40 nice and practical pieces that I really love.  And it works really well for me.  In fact, I really love it and don't think I will ever go back to my old ways again.  If it works so well for me, why not try it on my kids?  Why do they need a closet that overflows when I get by perfectly fine?  It will definitely be a work in progress for awhile but I am determined to figure out the best mix for a perfect closet for them.  Not gonna lie; it is going to be a real struggle for me to pair things down and clean out some pieces because they are just so darn cute.  However, it will teach me to appreciate the sweet things we do have and get to enjoy those "splurge" pieces a little more all while making sure my kids are comfy and cute.

So stay tuned my friends.... Hopefully in the next few days, I can debut the perfect kid capsule wardrobe!

Word for the Year - Better

So I have been thinking long and hard over the last week or so about my resolutions for 2016.  I love the start of the new year.  It is such a great time to reflect on where you've been and get a fresh start on what lies ahead.  Every year, I try to set goals.  Some years I stick to them, and some I don't so much (cough cough 2015).  I have always been taught that goals should be realistic and achievable with a specific time frame and plan but maybe that's not what works best for me.  So I am changing things up a bit this year.  Instead of focusing on a long list of specific goals, I am focusing more on a word of the year.  I thought about every word from joy to peace to manage to rest before I finally settled on what is the best one for me right now... and that word is BETTER.

I want to be a BETTER mother.
- I want to spend more time with my kids and live in the moment with them.  I want to put away the distractions and focus more on my children. I want to nurture them and teach them.

I want to be a BETTER wife.
- I want to do a better job at appreciating and praising my spouse.  I want to pray for him more and be more submissive.  I want to do a better job of loving him and sharing special moments together.

I want to eat BETTER.
- I want to eat healthier by eliminating junk from my diet and focusing more on clean and fresh foods.  I want to drink more water and less Diet Coke (even though I am a little addicted to it).  I want to cook more fresh and nutritious foods for my family and stay away from the processed stuff to fuel my body with the nutrients and energy it needs.

I want to be a BETTER runner.
- I want to train and practice to be faster and go further.  I want to run more miles and finish my first Half Marathon.  I want to exercise more and cross train to improve my whole body both inside and out.

I want to be a BETTER steward of my money.
- I want to be frugal and thrifty with my money.  I want to give more to others and spend less on myself.  I want to be less materialistic and more focused on reaching my financial goals and sharing with others.

I want to be a BETTER Christian.
- I want to spend more time praying and in God's word.  I want to daily live out Romans 12;  Being a living sacrifice, serving God with my spiritual gifts, and always behaving like a Christian.

"12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we,being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. 10 Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; 11 not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; 13 distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.
17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,”says the Lord. 20 Therefore
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
If he is thirsty, give him a drink;
For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

I want to be a BETTER me.
- I want to do more for others and less for me.  I want to go back to school and learn more things.  I want to be smarter and wiser and stronger.  In everything I do, I hope to become better. I want to be better today than I was yesterday and better tomorrow than I am today!

Happy 2016 Everyone!
