Good Ole PB and Banana

I can be pretty routine when it comes to my lunches.  I've tried the whole weekly meal prep thing before and although it sounds all glorious, it's just not for me.  Plus I get bored on the same foods all the time so I usually change mine up every day. 

I try to go to the gym or run my errands on my lunch break so I almost always bring my lunch to work.  Jarrod and the girls always take their lunches as well so it is easier for to pretty much fix everyone the same and do it all together when I pack bags each night.  I usually take leftovers or some type of sandwich or salad for my lunch.  I try to keep it low point/low calorie too since my mind is set on the fact that I always have to have an afternoon snack as well.  I pretty much just divide my lunch into 2 meals.  Like I've said before, I am in no way a nutritionist or health expert so there is no science or weight loss scheme behind the way I meal plan but it is what works best for me! 

One of my go-to lunches for everyone in my house is a good ole peanut butter and banana sandwich!  I don't know what makes this so good but everyone in house absolutely loves it!  The first time I ever gave Hadley one, she just kept saying "Mama this is so good.  This is sooooo good!"  I keep a jar of Kirkland Organic peanut butter at my desk (I guess I just revealed one of my dirty little secrets huh?) so I just mix a tablespoon of PB with a banana and a top it on a few slices of Aldi brand Fit and Active bread that I toast.  I like to add raisins to mine too and serve it open faced so that it lasts longer! It fills me up and is only about 5 WW Points!  Sometimes I used PB2 to save a few points but it is not near as good!  Or I might add some fruit or chips (there are tons of low point options)  to go with it but I usually save those for my afternoon snack.

I Really Love My Moleskine

I am a huge note taker. Considering I have the worst short term memory ever, paper and pen are two of my best friends.... If I don't write it down, I forget it!

That being said, one of my latest obsessions are my Moleskines! I really love these little notebooks. They are plain and simple and light so they fit perfectly in my purse, my car, my desk, and are just right to take with me wherever I go whether it be the grocery or work or church! I jot down my lists, my ideas, my budgets, my notes, and anything else I may need all in my convenient little notebook. It's perfect for my everyday use really. Literally, I find myself grabbing them numerous times a day!

I have a few of the 8inch 80 page classic notebooks that I use to jot down lists and reminders. I use the classic info book for my money and budget stuff. And I use the 12 month monthly notebook for my planner. I also have my eye on a recipe notebook and an address book of theirs.  They have some ones that you can connect to apps on your tablet and phone but I'm just not that tech savvy yet!

I highly recommend these little Moleskines for any busy scatterbrained mom like me! I promise they are better than all my other notebooks, planners, and notepads!

What I Read - Finding Me by Michelle Knight



A friend of mine loaned me this book to read.  She is big into real like stories like this and said it was very interesting but definitely not a warm-fuzzy book.  She was SO right about that!
 
This book is Michelle Knight's tell-all memoir about growing up in a very poor dysfunctional family, running away and becoming homeless, becoming a teen mom, and then being kidnapped and help captive for 10 plus years by a monster of a man.  She tells of the abuse and unimaginable pain and torture she faced while being locked in chains in a nasty house for years.  It is a very very sad story of a pitiful life I pray I nor anyone else would ever have to experience. It was a very interesting true story that made me realize how messed up some people in this world really are!

Barbies Barbies Everywhere

I am really trying to do a better job of slowing down and making time to play with my girls.  Hadley loves Barbies so much... I mean really loves them!  We have a fully furnished Dreamhouse (the old school fold up kind I found for $10 at the consignment sale), a camper, a tent, a clubhouse, a closet, a good 50+ outfits (thanks to lots of hand me downs), a gajillion tiny little shoes and accessories, and waaayy too many little skinny long-legged blonde Barbie dolls lying around everywhere (but according to Hadley they are all different people with different names so how dare we try to give a few away). 


Anyways... so needless to say, we spend A LOT of time playing with Barbies.  Daddy and Little Sis even get to join in some but sister hasn't quit learned that she can't eat all the teeny tiny little pieces that come with them, which by the way, whoever decided it was a good idea to sell Barbie and her friends with so many little accessories - teeny-tiny-itty-bitty little pieces that seem to get up and wonder around to every little nook and cranny of my house playing hide and seek- should be shot! 




I so love this season of life full of little girl pretend and play.  I may complain about the little Barbie pieces all over my house but I dread the day when their Barbies go from strewn all over every little inch of my house to a little box in the yard sale!  I wish I could slow down time and they could stay Barbie-loving little girls forever!

Coffee Bar

I love the new trend of having a coffee bar in your house!  Considering that coffee is a pretty important staple in the my house, I couldn't help but consider it for myself.  I kinda stole the idea from my cousin Becca who has an adorable little set up in her apartment with all of her coffee essentials.  I had to do a little rearranging and decluttering in my kitchen - which needed done so badly anyways- to get it all to fit just right but I was pleased with the outcome (especially considering interior design didn't quite make the cut when God was choosing my talents for me).

 

Jarrod installed some little metal hooks we got from Lowes into the bottom of the cabinets and I used some old cookie jars I got from Old Time Pottery years ago to store the coffee and filters.  Jarrod likes his coffee from the Keurig cups but I prefer to make an old fashioned pot of coffee since I usually have 2-3 cups in the morning so we have both.  I am still looking for a cute little sign or frame to add to it but I haven't found just what I am looking for yet.  Guess I will just have to make myself visit the new Hobby Lobby to see what I can find!

Yummy Deer Chili

Have I mentioned how much I really really love my crockpot?  I usually use it at least once a week... especially in the winter months.  I love coming in and supper be ready to go.  It makes fast food way less tempting on a busy day!  Last week was so cold and yucky here (I mean 25-30 degrees with an ugly rain/snow/sleet mix)... however it was the perfect chili weather!  And since Jarrod has stocked up the freezer with some deer meat (I guess his obsession with hunting is good for something), I decided to try to make a chili with deer meat!  I kinda made up and combined a few chili recipes to make it my own and I must say it was soooooo good!!






- 1 lb. Venison
- 2-3 Tbs Worcestershire Sauce (I rarely measure ingredients but if I had to guess I would say about 2-3 Tbs but you may need to adjust based on your preference... plus I LOVE Worcestershire so more is better to me!)
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 2 can diced tomatoes
- 1 can black beans (not drained)
- 1 can chili beans (not drained)
- 1 can beefbroth 
- 1/4 cup chili powder
- 2 Tbs cumin
- 2 tsp garlic salt (another one I didn't really measure but this is a good guess)
- a little dried oregano (maybe 1 Tbs)
- a little more Worcestershire
- a little salt and pepper

I browned my meat with the Worcestershire sauce and onion then just added it plus all the other ingredients into the crockpot and cooked on low for about 7 hours. I topped it with a little shredded cheese to!




Pretty sure I will never be qualified to write a cookbook considering how terrible I am at actually writing my recipes out but maybe you can figure it out!

Glitter Sparkle Bailey

So Hadley finally got her new cat she has been wanting forever!  So poor cat has been adopted into the Harrison home with two little girls that love to hold her and chase her.  Glitter has pretty much taken up permanent residents under the bed!  We have already "lost" her like 5 times in the house!
 
 
My friend sent me this picture that totally cracked me up because I am sure it is exactly how Glitter feels!
 
So now we have a new member of our little family to add a whole lot more entertainment!

Wednesday is Ballet Day

When I was little, I had a book called Saturday is Ballet Day.  It was one of my favorites about a little blonde hair girl that went to ballet class on Saturdays and made a new little friend. 


Well, at our house, Wednesday is ballet day!  It consists of me rushing home from work to meet my little dancer at the studio (thanks to a wonderful Gigi who gets her dressed and ready each week).  While she is in class, I get to sit on my tail and chit chat, read, or whatever else I want to do during my 45 minutes of somewhat me time.  Then, after class, we hurry home and throw some supper together (or if I have planned ahead a little, a nice crockpot meal is waiting on us) before dad has to be at church for praise band practice.

This is the 2nd year she has taken dance and I am actually pretty impressed with how well she does!  I can't wait for HC to be big enough to take to -- she looooves to dance so much so I am sure she will jump right in!  Plus, if I time it right, I may even get a little more "mom time" each week :)

I am a Working Mom

I am a working mom.
I wake up at 4:30 each day, shower, make coffee, and fix breakfast.
I iron my clothes, style my hair, and apply my makeup with my baby on my hip.
I kiss my babies goodbye, fill up with gas, and drive half an hour to my other job.
I am a working mom.
I work at my desk for hours, pay my bills and schedule appointments during my breaks, and try to visit the gym at lunch.
I head for home, stop by the store and the bank and cleaners, pick up my babies and pile all our stuff into my compact fuel efficient car.
I am a working mom.
I cook supper, try to sneak in a few veggies, and explain why they can't just have cookies for supper.
I wash the dishes, start the laundry, and sweep the floors.
I am a working mom.
I give baths, dry hair, change diapers, and brush little teeth.
I read some bedtime stories, rock the baby, say our prayers, and cuddle my little girl.
I am a working mom.
I fold the laundry, pick up the toys, and pack bags and lunch boxes..
I wash my face, brush my teeth, and try to sneak a little bit of bad reality TV.
I am a working mom.
I kiss my husband, read my Bible, say my prayers, and go to sleep.
I am a working mom.
I support my family and provide for my kids.
I build spreadsheets and I build castles.
I make budgets and I make Barbies come to life.
I attend meetings and I attend tea parties.
I am the coolest and most beautiful person in the world to two of the most amazing little people.
I am tired.  I am stretched. I am loved.
I am smart.  I am successful.  I am so extremely blessed.
I am a wife.  I am a coworker.  I am a friend
I am a working mom.

Get Skinny

I know I have posted a billion times about my never-ending journey to lose these last few pounds!  I dream of the day when I can step on the scale or put on the pants that make me say Yes I finally made it!  I am so non self disciplined when it comes to dieting... I live on a diet full of cheats.  I have had a few friends who have really been working and lost some weight lately or are determined to work hard to lose those extra pounds and they have inspired me to do the same.  I am not the kind of "dieter" that is strict enough to restrict myself from certain foods and I don't have the time or money or really even the want to go on one of those premade plans so Weight Watchers definitely works best for me but.... you have to track your food and that is what I fail to do so often!  It is so easy for me to get caught up in everything else and forget or just not do it.  But thanks to some inspiration and motivation from my friends, I am determined to stick to it at least for a few months.  Plus I bought some new bikinis last year and I refuse to go back to my mom suit this year!  So a few plans I have made to help this go round...

1 - EXERCISE -- I am the world's worst about coming up with excuses to NOT exercise.  I always enjoy running and working out when I do so I am not sure why I tend to avoid it so much.  A few friends and I have signed up for a 5k in April and I really want to run a half marathon later this year so hoping that motivates me to get moving a little more.
2 - Take small steps -- I like to see results right away and I know that is not always a good thing when it comes to getting fit and skinny.  Instead of focusing on my long term goal, I have made small monthly and weekly goals to help me to stay on track.
3 - Plan Plan Plan -- I have always been a pretty good planner but I am making a little extra effort to really plan out my points for the week before I even get started.  This way I can see where I have room to wiggle plus it takes the stress of planning each day out of the equation!
4 - Weigh in and track my progress - I have set up a journal to log my points and exercise every day as well as to log weekly weigh-ins including not only pounds but also percentages and progress to my goals.

So I am raising my glass of water for a toast to another round of weight watchers!!!

Saturday Breakfast

I love lazy Saturday mornings when we can sleep in late and wake up and fix breakfast. HC loves to eat. She wakes up every morning and runs to the kitchen saying "Eats! Eats!" So this morning I fixed some egg and cheese burritos. So easy I do and one of my favorite breakfast meals! I added a little grape fruit with mine (my newest addiction). So good and so easy to do! Throw in a good cup of mint chocolate coffee and you have a delicious breakfast!


Flatout Flat Bread

Books Books Books

One of my goals for the new year is to read at least 50 books.  I love to read and really love all kinds of books and authors.  My all time favorite author is definitely Karen Kingsbury.  There is just some special about her books.  They are all just so peaceful and inspiring and almost always the most perfect ending. 

I love sweet romantic love stories but I also love a good crazy mystery or an interesting memoir.  The Grapes of Wrath, Huckleberry Finn, and Gone Girl are at the top of my favorites list right beside all of the utopian world series (AKA Hunger Games and Divergent Series).  Oh, and any book that becomes a movie usually goes onto my list as well.  I also really love any Christian living book that really encourages and challenges me in my walk with Christ.

Pretty much, I just love them all (except for I refuse to read 50 Shades of Grey - GASP! I know, I know, "It's really not that bad. It has a great love story...." yadi yadi yadi). 

I have several on my list for this year but still have room for plenty more.  I am trying to squeeze in some from my top 100 novels list throughout the year as well plus I try to keep some type of devotional book going at all times to.  Some on my list for the year are...

Skinny Mom - Meatloaf Muffins

I found this really good looking Chicken Parmesan Meatloaf Muffins Recipe over on the Skinny Mom Website.  But I didn't have a few of the ingredients so I tweaked it a little and replaced the chicken with ground turkey, just used regular wheat bread that I had and tore it into crumbs, and then just topped it with regular cheddar cheese on half of them since the girls won't eat cheese (Hadley says she is allergic, which she is not, but her Babu doesn't like cheese so therefore she does not either).


And the turned out sooooo good!  I served them with garlic bread and a side salad and they were delich!  Yes I know my pictures aren't near as pretty as Skinny Mom's but these were a great healthier meatloaf option and I just had to share.  



BTW - Skinny Mom is an excellent website for great recipes.  She always includes lots of pictures, easy printable instructions, and nutrition facts including the WW points!  Definitely one of my go to's when meal planning!
