What I Read- Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

I absolutely loved Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs!  I seriously finished it in like two days -- thank you audio books :)

The story is about a teenage boy, Jacob, who grew up hearing strange tales and viewing odd photos from his grandfather about very peculiar children that he grew up with.  After the tragic loss of his grandfather, Jacob goes on an adventure to learn about the world that his grandfather has always made seem so real to him.

The book is inspired by creepy vintage photos that the author collected over the years.  He based the story around these photos and even wove them throughout the book.  The story is mysterious and intriguing and very descriptive.  It was very strange but I just couldn't hardly make myself put it away until I finished!

I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for something a little different to read!  I can't wait to read the other books in the trilogy and I will probably rush to the movie theater with all the teenagers to see the move when it comes out in the spring!

Is it Monday again already?!

We had such a fun and busy weekend! After the Color Run on Saturday, we came home for naps before we headed to a wedding.

Jarrod's cousin got married Saturday at the Cowboy Church in Colbert County. It was such a beautiful rustic venue and was a super cute wedding! Hadley was more than thrilled to get to be the flower girl! Haha it was a five year olds dream come true! But she got a little shy and thankfully her Aunt Becky was there to help her out.

Jarrod's dad has a huge family so it's always so great to see them all together. Can you tell they are all siblings? I don't think they have each other at all! Ha!!

We finished the day with dinner and frozen yogurt with some friends and a trip to Target! Needless to say, Hadley crashed as soon as we got home! She said it was her best day!

We had a great Sunday at church! Hadley was thrilled to be matching Hudson in their sweet little outfits.

Sunday night, we had our dry run for our AWANA kick off next week! I am so excited about starting this ministry at our church. We have had so many great people work so hard to get this going and I am very much looking forward to watching our kids grow in Christ!

Looking forward to a fun and busy week ahead!!

Color Run 2015

We had so much participating in the Color Run today! Our friends Ashley and Kate joined us bright and early this morning to head over to Huntsville for the run. The girls were soooo excited and loved dancing around before the race!

About a whopping two minutes in, the girls got tangled up and face planted on the concrete. Both came up bleeding and screaming like they had been ran over by a car. After a few band aids from a nice spectator sitting on her front porch, we were back at it! I was extremely glad I had decided to take the stroller at this point.

They all did so good the rest of the race and I got a major work out pushing 100 pounds or so around for most of the run but it was so fun and we all had a blast. The girls were soooo excited to get their own medals and glitter powder at the end!

It probably wasn't my best race time but was by far the most fun race I've run! Hadley says she is already ready for the next one and I love having a little running partner!

We celebrated with some Chickfila chicken minis and chocolate milkshakes when we finished because I mean what's better than that after running around an getting covered with colored powder all morning?

Can't wait to do it again next year!!

Friday Favorites

I love reading "Favorites" posts whether it be favorite clothes, beauty products, or food.  I really like to see products that other people have found and fallen in love with because they almost always inspire me to try them myself (I know.  I know. I am a sucker for advertisements and gimmicks).

So here are a few of my favorites lately...

The New Balance tennis shoes are THE BEST casual shoe!  I love my Sanuk flip flops for a comfy casual shoe but sadly I can't pull them off year round.  These are very lightweight and comfortable and cane be paired with leggings, tshirts, dresses, shorts, jeans, yoga pants, and pretty much almost everything else in my closet!  In fact, these are the ONLY pair of shoes I took to Cincinnati a few weeks ago.  I'm pretty sure that is the first time in my life that I have ever only packed one pair of shoes on a trip!  They really are perfect for running errands and chasing kiddos.

I have been using this blush for awhile now and have really fallen in love with it.  I have it in a few shades but my favorite is the coral.  It is super easy to swipe on and I really love the feel of it on my face... very lightweight and airy feeling and the color stays in place all day.

My mother in law bought this brush for the girls after her hair stylist was talking about how great it is for wet and tangled hair.  I tried it out and decided I needed one for myself too.  I have really thick hair that gets super tangled and falls out like crazy.  This brush literally feels like it just rubs across the top of my hair but it really gets the tangles out without pulling.  I guess it is the really tiny bristles that lets it glide so smoothly.  Anyways, I don't really know how it works but it does!  A huge live saver at our house full of girls!

I got this Stila lipstick in my Birchbox forever ago but had never really used it because of it's bright bold red color.  But, I got brave lately and gave it a try.  This stuff is awesome!  It is super soft and doesn't leave my lips dry and flaky like most lip stains tend to.  I can't pull off bright red lips every day but I plan to go buy it in a few more subtle every-day-wear colors.  The color really lasts several hours to!  Worth the investment!

I found these chips when I was at Earth Fare last week.  I am a huge fan of anything pumpkin so it definitely caught my eye!  And wow they were SOOOOOO good!  They are kinda sweet but have that salty tortilla chip taste as well so they just end being pretty much perfect.  I maaay have eaten the whole bag by myself... in one day.  The only negative side is the bag isn't really what I would consider "full size" and I haven't found them anywhere else except for bulk size at Amazon.  But I will definitely be going back and getting some more!

Maybe you will see something here you might like to try!   Happy Friday everyone!!

What I Read - Go Set a Watchman

I finally finished reading Harper Lee's new book, Go Set a Watchmen.  I am a huge fan of To Kill a Mockingbird so I was so excited about this new book.  In Go Set a Watchmen, a grown up Scout returns to Macon to find it completely changed from what she remembers.  But I really think it is more of Scout that has been changed than the Macon we all fell in love with.

I honestly don't really know how I feel about this book.  I thoroughly loved the flashbacks to her childhood and the fun stories that went with it but I had a hard time getting in to the "grown up Scout" parts.  I don't want to give any spoilers in case anyone plans to read it but I was pretty disappointed in some of the things she says and does (especially being rude to Atticus... I mean how can anyone be rude to the nicest man on earth?!?!).  There wasn't really a good plot and I missed some of the main characters from the first book.

I know rumors have swirled that Harper Lee didn't actually write this book and I kind of feel that may be partially true.  I believe some parts she did, but some parts were just not the same.  However, I am glad I read it and I did love getting to go back and visit Macon but you will just have to read it and decide for yourself what you think!

Fun Day

Last night, our families all went to Elkmont's football game to watch Eli. My mom loves little high school football! She even planned for us a "tailgate" at my aunts house before the ball game! We had a lot of fun even if they did get beat! I'm so proud of Eli and love watching him play! Not sure what we will do after he graduates this year (tear tear).

Jarrod had a golf tournament with the men at church today so the girls and I had us a little girls day!  I have been hearing lots of good things about some places in Rogersville so we ventured over there to find Hadley some new shoes. I swear her foot grows a size bigger each week... Poor girl is going to have boats like her mama.

I love Pam's Shoe Store! They have so many great shoes at great prices and the ladies there are super nice and helpful! Plus they have a little play area the girls could enjoy while I shopped. I have a new found love for Livie & Luca shoes for the girls! They are just so stinking cute and really great quality and they go with EVERYTHING! So we got some new ones and some Keds and now we are all set for fall!

We browsed around downtown a bit and then had a lunch treat at McDonalds!

On our way home, we ran into the Trail of Tears motorcycle riders so we pulled over and watched. They come through every year and I am pretty sure I have never even watched them so it was fun for us all to see the hundreds of different motorcycles come through. Surprisingly, the girls really loved it!

After that, we had to go get Hadley a new doll house she's had her eye on. She sold some of her toys and clothes she didn't like anymore and bought it. I am really trying to teach her about money and saving and that we don't always get everything we want because it costs money but that girl loooooves stuff so much and we are really having a hard time with that one! Sweet girl has at least 10 "allectiions" (collections) of all kinds of things!

So now the girls are napping while Jarrod tries to get his TV mounted and ready to go before the Bama/Ole Miss game tonight! Too bad it doesn't start until 8! Hoping I can stay awake through it!

Happy Saturday and Roll Tide!!

What I Read - Fahrenheit 451

I have been trying to scratch off a few more books from my classic novels list lately.  I have wanted to read Fahrenheit 451 since like the 9th grade and I am really not sure why I have never picked it up, but I finally got around to reading it last week.  I am a big fan of the dystopian future world novels but honestly, this one took me a little bit to get in to.  I struggled a little bit at first figuring out what was going on and picturing the setting but once I finally got it all straightened out, I really enjoyed it.  It's a pretty short story about a world where books have been banned because they make people sad or feel too powerful and firemen's jobs are to burn any banned books as well as the whole home where they find them.

Guy Montag is a fireman who begins questioning the whole book burning idea and wants out of it.  The story follows him as he decides what to do and where to go about the whole mess he gets himself in.  I don't want to say too much and give away the whole story but I will say that it's a "different" kind of book with an interesting and suspenseful story.  I don't think I could say it was the best book I ever read, but I did enjoy it for the most part and am glad to mark it off my reading list.

Cincinnati O-HI-O

We had such a fun little weekend family getaway to Cincinatti! We always love getting to see our good friends and really love when we get to visit the Great American Ballpark and watch JJ pitch!

Friday's game turned into a rain delay right about the time JJ stepped on the mound so we actually got to watch him throw both days which was great. And the girls did go good at the games. I even had one man comment on how well behaved they were! 😳 I guess when you feed them ice cream, cotton candy, snow cones, popcorn, and suckers they don't have choose to behave.

JJ and Megan Kate are always the best hosts when we come to visit. Pretty sure Hadley's favorite part was getting to "wrestle" with JJ ☺️ We had such a great time and I can't wait to come back and cheer on JJ and the Reds again!

What I Read- Hands Free Mama

have been "reading" a lot of audio books lately on my commutes to and from work.  I am in the car over an hour each day so a good audio book really helps pass the time.

I just finished Hands Free Mama by Rachel Macy Stafford. She really talks about putting away the distraction and soaking up the precious moments with our loved ones that we too often miss because we are busy on our phones and ipads or too focused on marking things off the to-do list and getting everything done instead of stopping to take in those moments with our family that we will never get back.  While there were several things she said that I wish I could've jotted down, one really stood out to me.  She recommended taking a certain time each day to put away all the distractions (especially the phone) and focus only on your kids and husband.  She reminded me just how quickly my girls will grow up and how I will never get that time back!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who struggles with balancing their time or who often catch themselves with their eyes glued to their phone more than to their kids.  She has some great ideas on how to break free from the distractions and live a more hands free life!  Really makes you realize what all your are missing out on when we waste our time with all the unimportant and wasteful moments of our lives.. especially when those times take time away from our kids!

Living Proof Deal

So I have shared before about how much I hate to wash my and how much love Living Proof hair products for helping me go days between washes. I don't tend to really splurge on a lot of high end and name brand products, but this one is really worth it! However, I found a great deal for this if you are planning to buy these products.

First sign up for ebates if you don't already have an account here.

Then go through ebates to the Living Proof website so you can earn 4% cash back!

Then, I found this little trick to score a few free products...

Living Proof offers TWO free perfect hair day minis with the purchase of $39+ and have free shipping and returns with no minimum order requirement. Plus you get a free sample of a product of choice with every order. Since I needed both the shampoo and conditioner and decided to purchase the jumbo size of each (which cost more than $39), I placed one order for the shampoo and a separate order for the conditioner. The jumbo size bottles are pretty pricey but are about 20% cheaper if you figure up the per ounce cost! If you know you like this stuff and are going to use it for awhile, the jumbo size is a pretty good deal for you.

It took me about 3 more minutes to go back through my ebates account and place another order but I ended up getting 6 free samples and it didn't cost me anymore! AND I got like $5 back in my ebates account which is always exciting!

So I just thought I would share for all you other Living Proof fans out there!

Set Apart

We have started a Bible reading plan at church that consists of reading 5 chapters of Psalms plus 1 chapter of Proverbs every day for a month. I got a late start so I am a bit behind (okay more like a week behind but that's okay).

This passage really jumped out at me in my reading this morning. "How long will you turn my glory to shame? But know the Lord has set apart..."

As Christians, we are never going to be perfect. No matter how much we strive to be sinless perfect Jesus-like people, we will never get there. We are human and full of sinful desires and selfish ambitions. But we can strive to be set apart.

It's so easy to throw the excuse up "well all the other 'Christians' do it" or "just because I do this doesn't make me not a Christian" or whatever excuse you want to use to justify filling your selfish desires and making your sins seem okay. God doesn't want us living in sin like everyone else. As Christians, we should be set apart! When others look at you, do they see someone who is set apart living a life glorifying our God or do they see someone who is just like everyone else, just going through the motions of being a Christian, and following the bits and pieces of the Bible we choose, consciously and purposely turning His glory into shame over and over and over again?

I'm not saying that we will ever get to a point where we will be able to defeat all of our fleshly desires and sins that we struggle with but I do believe that if we focus on being set apart to bring glory to his name, we will be closer than we ever were.

Friends, Football, and a whole lot of FUN!

I love September! It's definitely one near the top of my "favorite times of the year" list! Football season starts which means lots of extra time with friends and lots of good food! The weather starts to cool off and my boots get to start inching out of the back of the closet. And fall clothes are by far my favorite!

This Saturday, we started the day off sipping coffee and reading on the front porch while the girls played. This is one of my favorite things to do and I really love lazy Saturday mornings when we get to enjoy this time.

The girls and I went to our friend Mason's fun wrestling birthday party. The girls loved playing in the bouncy house and going down the slide. They always love to go to Mason's house to play so it was really fun to get to play and eat cake!

After naps and a little house cleaning, some of your friends came over to grill burgers and watch the Bama game! We all had so much fun! I love our friends so much and love having an excuse every Saturday to get together! And the girls love having someone to entertain and play with!

I'm so excited fall is right around the corner and am looking forward to a fun football season ahead! Roll Tide Yall!
