Oh Christmas Tree

I have always loved real Christmas trees but never wanted to fool with the extra work that comes with it.  However, I was a little tired of the same old tree and decided to change things up a little at the Harrison house this year.  So, I bit the bullet and went for a real Christmas tree!

Last weekend, we headed out to our local Christmas tree farm.  It is just a few minutes from our house and they have tons of trees to choose from plus some fun little activities for the kids as well.  We went early and loaded up on the little sleigh that took us out to the fields so we could pick out our tree.  After lots of browsing and measuring and discussing, we finally found our perfect tree.  Dad sawed it for a minute (mainly so I could get this lovely photo opp) before we called in the chainsaws to bring it on down.  It was fun watching the guys “shake” it and wrap it and load it into the back of the truck.  Not going to lie though, a little piece of me wishes I had taken my car so we could have strapped it on top.

When we got home, we set up in in the living room and got to decorating.  I really wanted the big bulbed colored lights and Hadley has been pretty adamant about having a star on top so we went a little retro with it all.  We just put on our favorite ornaments that we have collected over the years and so it is pretty simple but I totally love it!  I may even add a few strands of popcorn garland if I really get festive

I finished putting up my Snow Village and put a little more decor in the girls rooms and around the house.  And after a few trips to Lowes, I finally got the outside stuff up as well.  We are officially set for Christmas at our home!

Thanksgiving 2016

I cannot believe another Thanksgiving has come and gone so fast. Seriously why does time seem to move so much faster now?

Besides the fact that my oven died and my kitchen was completely torn all apart, we still had a great time celebrating with our families... lots of good food, great laughs, and oh so much to be thankful for!

Movie Night

We had a fun little outing to the movies to see Trolls last night with some of our little friends and cousins. Besides the spilt popcorn and 48 trips to the potty, we had a great time!

Thanksgiving at Little Tots

I was so glad I got to go with the babies to the Thanksgiving Feast yesterday. Of course, my stubborn child wouldn't stand up with her class to sing or wear her little Pilgrim hat but it was still a sweet little lunch anyways.

Weekend Wrap Up

We've had such a fun few days! I feel like we have partied all weekend long!

Thursday night, we went up to Legend's for Jarrod's birthday dinner with his family and it was soooo good!

Friday night, we threw Mollie a little Girls Night Fiesta to celebrate her upcoming wedding. We had so much fun eating Mexican food and playing fun party games!

Saturday, we went to town with my mom to do a little pre-Thanksgiving shopping. The girls were so good and we had a really good time.

Sunday night, we had a Thanksgiving dinner at church. The food was delicious and we all had some really great fellowship with our church family.

It's been a really great weekend and I am finally getting in the holiday spirit a little bit. Looking forward to slowing down a little and spending some time with family this week!

Tonight...

My heart aches so tonight as I lay here in my warm and comfortable bed between two healthy, happy little girls because just a few towns over, another mama is hurting over the loss of her little one.

That mama is just like me. She has loved that little girl with all she has. She has prayed for her and cared for her. She has washed her dirty feet and changed her diapers. She has bought her baby dolls and dressed her in big bows and pretty dresses. But unlike me, that mama doesn't get to hold her little girl anymore and just the thought of her pain hurts me oh so much. I just can't imagine. But we both know there is still hope. Because that mama loves Jesus and she taught her baby to love Jesus and tonight, that sweet little girl is healthy and living with Jesus, twirling and playing and singing. And one sweet day, that mama will get to hold her baby again in the presence of her Heavenly Father. And oh what joy that will be!

I have spent the last few months following Kayleigh's journey and reading her mom's posts every day about her illness and I have been just in awe over her unshakable faith in Christ. I pray that I am never in such a difficult situation. I can't even fathom the thought of having to tell my babies goodbye forever. But I pray that if I ever am, that I will stand strong in my faith knowing that no matter how much I love those girls, my God loves them even more and has big plans for them.

So tonight I am going to lie here just a little longer. I am going to pray for that mama, that God gives her superpower strength as she faces the days to come. I pray for comfort and peace to everyone whose lives that little girl touched. Then, I am going to thank God for the comfort he has given to me and for these two beautiful healthy babies. I am going to praise Him because even though we don't always understand his plans for this world, we know that He is in control and holds it all in his hands. And most of all, I am going to hold these babies close and thank God for the hope we have in Him!

Falling in Love Wedding Shower

We hosted a wedding shower for my sweet friend Mollie at our church this week! I had some really great help and it turned out so nice. I love everything fall so what better theme to go with than that? We had apple cider, pumpkin rolls, and caramel dip! And as always, I forgot my good camera so phone pics will have to do for now!

We are so excited about Mollie's upcoming wedding in a few weeks. Hadley is going to be the flower girl and is just thrilled about it! I know it will be a beautiful wedding and a beautiful bride!

Friday Catch Ups

Just catching up on a few things I’ve been meaning to share...

First of all, I was blown away by all the feedback I got from my Single’s Day post.  I hope you all know that I am praying for you and for God’s plan for your life.  I know it can be frustrating and disappointing at times but I truly believe that when we let God control every situation and look for His will more than our own, great things will happen.

I just started 21 Day Fix this week and so far I am LOVING it!  To be honest, I have been a bit skeptical of the whole Beachbody/Shakeology thing but I joined a “21 day fix mom group” and really love interacting with everyone each day.  It is great accountability and encouragement!  I love how easy the meal plan is and the workouts are killer… plus they are only like 30 minutes so I have no excuse to not get them in each day.  I have already lost a few pounds and can really tell a difference from the workouts.  I can’t wait to share the results in a couple of weeks.

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives to the death.” - Revelation 12:11

I ran across this verse the other day in my morning devotion and it just really stuck out to me.  There are so many negative things going on in the world right now that it can become extremely overwhelming.  But I know my God is in control and he has already overcome it all.  And while I may not can change the hearts of everyone in this country or even in my own little circle, I can live my life as Christ lived his and through love and through my words and actions, I can make a tiny difference to someone else.

I have probably said it a million times but I can never express it enough. I think teachers are the most amazing people in the world.  I volunteered at Hadley’s school a little bit the last couple of weeks and as much as I enjoyed it, those little ones wore me out!  I really don’t know how you do it everyday but I am so thankful for you.  It takes a very special person to not only teach these kids but to help them and encourage them and truly love all those little human beings.  You rock teachers!!

And how awesome was that World Series final this week? I stayed up WAY past my bedtime but I am so glad I stuck it out and made it to the end!  I don’t think I have gotten that much into a World Series game since 1995 when I was obsessed with Chipper Jones and subscribed to Choptalk magazine.

I am so looking forward to a slow weekend to get caught up on some much needed housework and spending some time with family and friends!

What I've Been Reading..

Between a little traveling, some extra down time, lots of audiobook time in the car, and some really good books that I couldn’t put down, I have read a lots of books over the last two months.  I reviewed a few of them here and here already but I have a lot of catching up to do today.

The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena
I received this book from the Book of the Month Club in September.  This was one of their top picked books for the month and I had heard lots of people talking about it so I was excited to get to read it.  This story was a great thriller mystery.  A couple of new parents, Anne and Marco, were at a dinner party next door when their baby was taken from their home.  Of course, everyone automatically points to the parents.  However, the story reveals lots of secrets and deception in what we think is a perfect loving (and rich) little family.  Definitely kept me turning the pages until the very end.  I highly recommend!

If I Stay by Gayle Forman
I so loved this book.  It may have been one of my favorites for the year.  I guess this would actually be considered a young adult genre but it still sucked me in.  When Mia and her family have a terrible car accident, Mia finds herself in an out of body experience with an extremely tough decision to make.  I loved the characters in this book and the young love between Mia and her boyfriend Adam.  It was a sweet story with lots of both heartache and happiness.  I didn’t realize it was a movie until after I read it but I hope to get to watch it soon!

Where She Went by Gayle Forman
This book is the sequel to If I Stay and I loved it just as much.  This story takes place three years later and is narrated by Adam as he and Mia try to navigate their new lives.  I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to ruin it for either one of the books in this series but this one really tugs on your heartstrings as well.  I highly recommend them both!

The Shack by Wm. Paul Young
I am not real sure how I feel about this book.  I listened to the audio version so I may have missed out a little bit due to that but I just did not love this book as much as I had hoped.  The story follows Mac, a normal every day dad, whose young daughter gets abducted.  Several years later, he received a letter from God inviting him back to the shack where his daughter was murdered.  While the book had some great points and truths about how God never leaves us in our dark times, I wasn’t so sure about how the characters were depicted. This book is also coming to movie next year and I am interested in seeing how they move this book to film.

Deliver Her by Patricia Perry Donovan
I mentioned this one back in the Blogtember post but I wanted to do a review since I have finished it.  As I mentioned before, this book is a about a teenage girl named Alex whose life starts spiraling out of control after she loses her best friend in a car accident.  Her mother is desperate to help her so decides to use a secret transport service to send her to a private boarding school where she can get help.  However, the transport goes wrong and Alex escapes.  Once Alex goes missing, we find out all sorts of secrets and lots of twists and turns from not only Alex, but also her family as well.  IT was a pretty good book that really shows some of the struggles not only teenagers face, but also reveals some of the secrets so many people try to hide away from the outside world.

The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman
I took me a little while to get into the book and I honestly considered quitting it at one point but I am so glad I stuck with it. I wanted to pick sides in this story but I felt my heart being pulled in so many directions. I am not sure there was a way for their to be a happy ending for everyone in this story but I really loved the emotional journey it took me on between a mother's love for her child, a husband's love for his wife, and the desire to be a good person and do the right thing.  A great read but make sure to keep your tissues handy!

Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty
To be honest, I was a little disappointed with this one. I have very much loved all of Moriarty's book so I may have set my expectations a little too high for this one. As always, I loved the characters. They are all so real and just like so many of my friends and families in my life. But I did not feel like this story sucked me in as much as some of her other ones have. Once the big "mystery" of what really happened at the BBQ was revealed, I had a hard time hanging in there with the rest of the story. It was still a decent book but I just did not love it as much as the others of hers I have read.

This is Where It Ends by Marieke Nijkamp
This was library book club read through the Alabama Digital Library that I check out ebooks from all the time so of course, I jumped on board.  This book is about a school shooting in a small community.  The story is told from several different perspectives as they try to survive this horrible event.  The book was intense and kept me sucked into it and was a quick read but I felt like it was just okay.  I wasn’t a big fan of some of the characters and found myself a little confused about some of the events and connections that the story jumped around to.  The story was good but I just felt like it was missing some parts that could have made it really great.

Single's Day - George

I am so excited to be linking up with Kelly over at Kelly’s Korner for Single’s Day today!

Today, I want to share my friend George.  I guess “technically” he is my husband’s bestie but I’ve adopted him as my own.  I met George when he joined our church several years ago as our church pianist. He is the MOST musically talented person I know and I am for real.  He can play just about any instrument and can also sing… I mean hello ladies!

George is also a super talented wood worker and is always making cool stuff for his home.  He can make tables, light fixtures, picture frames, whatever… you name it and he can make it.  He can also cook a little bit too.  He is a great family guy and a strong Christian role model.  He is always eager to help and volunteers with the kids and youth at our church.  Plus he loves our babies too and has some seriously great dad potential... just saying!

So be sure to look him up on Facebook or email him at thediscinmusician@yahoo.com or me at lacey.k.harrison@gmail.com and I'll hook you up with a really great guy whose lots of fun!
