Weekend Wrap Up

I had every intention to get my house cleaned up and all packed and ready for our upcoming Disney World trip but considering the weather was absolutely perfect all weekend, we spent most of our time outdoors!

Hadley's teacher gives all the kids in her class with summer birthdays a special day throughout the year to celebrate their birthday at school and Hadley's happened to be on Friday. She requested a special donut treat to share with her class so HC and I took donuts at lunch for everyone.

Saturday was full of birthday parties as we celebrated some of our sweet little church friends! The girls had so much fun at all of them and were so full of sugar by the end of the day!

Jarrod and I got in one last long run before the half on Saturday and then headed over to downtown Madison to check out my friends new dress shop that's in the works. I can't wait to see it all come together soon!

Sunday was full of church happenings and playing outside at Papa's!  These two are such a mess together!

Monday was a holiday for all of us except for Jarrod so we went to watch my cousin play ball and then spent a little extra time outside soaking up some more of this beautiful weather before starting our extremely busy week ahead. We leave in a few days for our trip so we've got lots to do to get all ready for that but we are all very much looking forward to it!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I have a confession… I don’t like Valentine’s Day.  For one, Jarrod and I don’t really go all out for Valentines.  Two, I don’t like making crafty little treats.  And three, my kids get high on sugar and cookies and candy and turn into monsters.  So, now that I’ve got that off my chest, I will continue to tell you what a fabulous holiday we had!

My niece wanted to girls to come play at her house Saturday so Jarrod and I took advantage and went to dinner for our “Valentine’s Date” at Texas Roadhouse.  It is one our favorite places to eat so we went for a quick date to enjoy some rolls and honey butter.

Sunday night, we celebrated at AWANA with lots of hearts, cookie cake, and cards.  The kids all made cards for everyone and had a blast handing them out as they came out of church.

The girls made their Valentine’s Monday night (as in they wrote their names and assembled like two and then I gladly sat at the table and assembled the other twenty or so).  As I have mentioned before, I am NOT crafty and I don’t have a working printer at my house so Valentine’s cards at our house consist of boxed cards taped to a little snack treat.  Hadley picked out Finding Dory cards so I bundled them with some goldfish and HC wanted Shopkins and pretzels but that is about as far as my craftiness gets.  And you know what I realized?  Nobody really  cares!  The kids just love handing them out and sharing them with their friends.  They could really care less how elaborate or Pinteresty they are (but that’s a rant for another day).

I was able to take off for a little while nn Tuesday to attend Hunter Claire’s little party at her school and Hadley got to have a little cookie treat at her school so they were both pretty happy about that. We ended the day at dance class and then finally settled down and read some of their new books they got.  Another successful Valentine’s day in the books for the Harrison household!

To the High School Senior Athlete...

Dear High School Senior Athlete,

You are so close to graduation that you can taste it. You wake up and go to school each morning thinking I'm almost done! For most of you, these are the last days of your athletic career. Don't take it for granted.

These are your last games, your last steps on that court. These are your last suicides and your last wall sits; your last two a days and your last rebounding drills. Don't skip them. Don't half way do them. You won't get another chance.

I know right now you have "better" things on your mind. There are boys and friends and cars and clothes to be worrying about. Prom is coming up. Senior skip day and graduation festivities. But don't look past these last few games of your life because of it. I can almost promise you that you will look back at these days and think I wish I had practiced a little harder. I wish I had stayed a little later and got in one more drill. I know I do.

I was just like you at one time. I know what it feels like. But unlike you, I also know what it feels like when it's over. I know what it feels like to be so close to that final victory and miss it. I know what it is like to take off that precious jersey and walk out of that gym for the last time. You will miss it. You will miss those bus rides and those locker room chats. You will miss spending hours and hours with your teammates. After this season, you probably won't keep in touch with half of them so cherish every moment while you can.

I hope you enjoy this last season. This last playoff. This last trip down the road to the championship. But more than anything I hope you give it your all... more than your all. The boys will still be there. The friends and the parties will too. But this won't. And you will miss it. And it will hurt. But that victory is so sweet and you don't want to miss it. You don't want to look back thinking if only I had given it a little more. So good luck to you dear High School senior athlete. May you cherish these times for years to come.. I know I still do.

Glasses, Coffee, and Hair

I sat here for like ten minutes trying to think of a title for this blog post and came up with nothing so here you have it… sorry my creative juices are just not flowing very much at the moment.

We have had a fun but busy first week of February and I have taken a total of like 3 pictures.

I scratched a big item off my Bucket List…  I went last week and chopped off a whopping like 8+ inches of my hair to donate to Wigs for Kids.  I am still trying to get used to short hair again but I am so happy to finally get to help some little girl somewhere feel beautiful.

We had our first ever Mugs and Muffins for the young ladies in our church.  This has been a little idea of mine for awhile and I was so glad for it to finally come together and be so successful.  We all had a really great time drinking coffee and  enjoying some goodies and fellowship together.  We are planning on making it a monthly gathering and I am so excited about it!  (And we forgot to take a picture of course).

But the biggest and bestest news (according to Hadley anyways) was that her new glasses finally came in.  I took her to the eye doctor a few weeks ago and they recommended that she get glasses to help her vision.  Of course, she was thrilled and has asked every single day when they would get here.  We had to rush and pick them up as soon as they called that they were here and she has been just giddy ever since.
