Water Recipe

I have heard about a billion times that the key to everything healthy is drinking water... it makes your skin clearer, it makes you skinnier, it makes your hair prettier, it makes you happier and wealthier.  I am not a big water drinker.  I fix a huge glass on my desk every day and it really just sits there mostly.  I might have half of it gone by the end of the day.  So I found this really good water recipe on Pinterest (yes I know calling it a water recipe is goofy but I couldn't come up with anything better).  So I made this drink and I have already had 3 whole glasses of it today!!  It is seriously delicious!  I get water and something sweet at the same time!
I use my big Tervis tumbler and put in 6-8 frozen strawberries, 1/2 a lemon, and a few mint leaves and then fill with ice and water!  It's that easy!  And it even looks pretty!
I am really trying to jump back on the healthy eating bandwagon.  This whole month I have pretty much ate whatever was in site... french fries, cookies, chicken fingers, COKES... and I really do feel like crap.  I feel blubbery and my skin is terrible and considering I have not changed anything else about my skin care routine, I know it is my greasy fatty diet that has caused it all!  So back to healthy eating it is!  Out goes the greasy fatty processed foods, in goes the healthy nutritous veggies... and the water!

Happy Birthday Mee Mee!

Happy Birthday to my Mee Mee! She is definitely one of the most special women in my life! I am so extremely thankful that I have been blessed with two wonderful grandmothers that are everything grandmas are supposed to be... Kind, loving, sweet, precious ladies who really love their kids and grandchildren more than anything!  So very thankful for their love!

Baby Names

I was reading some of Kelly's Korner's older SUYL posts and ran across one that was baby names!  I love names... Sometimes I wish I had about 10 kids just so I could name them all of the wonderful names I love (guess I will just have to get some fish instead and name them).  There were three things that were very important to me when naming my kids:
1 - Do not just call them by their middle name.  Thankfully my mother was smart enough to call me by my first name but I have seen so many of my friends and family who are "middle namers" struggle with this their whole lives!  I still don't know what my poor grandmother's name is because half the people call her by her first name but the other half call her by her middle.  And I feel so bad for the kids at school that always have to correct the teacher because on the roll of course they are listed by their first name and oh my the struggle that a middle namer has to go through to get their name changed after marriage!  So, rule number one was no going by middle names!
2 - No misspelled or made up names.  One thing I can't stand is a normal name spelled crazy.  That is just asking for confusion for that poor child and just trouble and problems throughout their life because nobody knows how to spell their mispelled name!
3 - A normal name that is not too popular.  I wanted something that is classy and can stay with them their whole life.  Not a name that makes people make a funny face when they hear it or say "um where did that come from"?  But, I also didn't want them to have the same name as every other kid in their class like the Brittanys and Jessicas in my class.
Baby #1 - Hadley Elizabeth
Jarrod actually named Hadley.  I had always had a list full of baby names for my children before Hadley came along and of course that name was no where on the list.  There is a hunting camp Jarrod wants to go to named Hadley Creek and oneday he was talking about it and was like that would be a pretty name and I was like of course!  It met all my "name rules" and I didn't know any other Hadleys so it was perfect.  Elizabeth is my middle name and has always been one of my favorite names.  I quickly fell in love with Hadley Elizabeth and it fits her so well.  I honestly don't even remember the other names we discussed before Hadley.
Baby #2 - Hunter Claire
Nobody ever warned me how much harder it is to name the second child than the first!  Especially when it is of the same sex!  I wanted an H name that didn't sound like Hadley or end in an "ey" sound and of course still wanted it to meet my other name rules.  I wanted Harlow and Jarrod said NO WAY and that it was totally out of the question.  He wanted Harper Jo but I said it was way too popular.  So we went back and forth for awhile and got no where.  I have always loved the name Claire but I really wanted an H name so I couldn't use it either.  Hunter was a family surname and was always on my boys list but I had never really considered it for a girl even though I do love boy names on girls.  So we decided to put it with Claire and go with the double name (which I also love).  I am in love with Hunter Claire's name although it drives me a little nuts when someone just calls her Hunter ... yes I am going to be THAT mom that always corrects you when you don't call her both names!
Like I said before, I wish I had about 10 other kids to name to... Keenum, Hollis, Lane, John Ross, Harlow, Ruth Anne, Laura Glenn, Anne Catherine, Jeanne Frances... but I highly doubt that happens so I will just dream on about all the lovely names out there!

Since I shared Hadley's "15 things" I figured I would do the same for Hunter Claire!  She has gotten such a personality and is so funny now!  I love this age!

For my baby... 15 things I will miss about you being 14 months old..

1 - The way you greet me every time I come in the door.
2 - Your love of baby food pouches and how quickly you can suck one down.
3 - Your sweet little smile.
4 - The way you show off your muscles.
5 - When you ask for "more" in sign language.
6 - Your reaction when you hear music... you dance every single time!
7 - Your half laugh/half growl when I ask you if you are funny.
8 - The way you stand by your high chair when you are hungry.
9 - Your love to eat… All The Time!
10 - How excited you run to the tub at bath time.
11 - That you love to be held in the mornings.
12 - And rocked at night.
13 - Your sweet singing voice and how you always sing when you get busy.
14 - How much you love your sister.

SUYL - Makeup

I am so excited to be linking up with Kelly's Korner today for my very first Show Us Your Life! Today's SUYL is Makeup! I love makeup! I have tried hundreds of different cosmetics and skin care products over the last several years. I have terrible skin so I spend lots of time looking for the perfect products that won't irritate my super sensitive skin and still make me look half way decent. I don't like thick heavy makeup and don't have a lot of time to spend (or more like I don't want to spend at 5:30 in the morning) applying makeup the perfect way so I am always looking for something light and easy. So here are a few of my favorite products lately...
L'Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder - I really love this stuff!  It is super light weight and very easy to apply!  I mix it with some primer and apply with my hands.  It definitely looks more natural than some products I had been trying and goes on pretty smooth.  It is pretty light coverage but like I said before, I hate thick cakey makeup.  And a major bonus == it is only like $10!
undefined - Face - L'Oreal Paris
Urban Decay Naked 2 Eyeshadow - I finally gave in and bought this for myself for Christmas.  I had a hard time justifying $50 for eye shadow but I had just heard so many wonderful things about it that I gave in!  I seriously love this!  There are so many options and it seriously doesn't hardly even looked touched and I have used it every day since Christmas!  It goes on so smoothly and I love all the tutorials and ways to apply on Pinterest and You Tube!
Burt's Bees Dark Spot Corrector - I have lots of acne scars and some discoloration on my cheeks so I had been researching products to help with this without having to cake on a bunch of concealer.  I have always loved Burt's Bees products and just recently discovered their face care line when I got some moisturizer in my Birch Box and Jarrod and I both loved it.   I haven't been using it long so I can't really weigh in too much but I haven't had any problems with it so far.  It smells great and the price is not too bad compared to most other dark spot correctors.  It is very liquidy but I can't hardly even feel it on my face.  I am looking forward to seeing how this goes!
Burt's Bees Brightening Dark Spot Corrector
Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser - I absolutely love this cleanser!  I have always liked Philosophy products but they tend to be a little pricey so I have gotten pretty selective on the ones I buy but this one is a definite.  It removes my makeup and eye makeup all at once and it leaves my skin feeling so clean.  Lots of cleansers tend to irritate my skin but this one doesn't at all!
Clinque Chubby Stick Lipstick - I got this in a Bonus and fell in love with it!  It leaves my lips feeling so soft and smooth!  Very moisturizing!
I am so looking forward to reading all of the other Makeup SUYL posts! I love seeing what everyone else loves!

Happy Birthday Hadley

Happy Birthday Hadley!  I can not believe that it has been 4 years since my sweet little 8lb, 6oz little blonde hair daddy-looking baby joined our family!  She is such a fun age and I love everything about it (well except for the stubbornness and whining)!  Her fun personality and sweet imagination make me smile every day and I will definitely miss these days.  She is growing up WAY too fast!

For my little girl... 15 things I will miss about you being 3...

1 - Your love for plastic shoes!

2 - The way you play with your Barbies.

3 - How excited you get over the smallest things.

4 - And the little eek you make when you get really excited!

5 - When you tell everyone "My mama said..." even when I didn't really say it.

6 - Your "funny kisses"

7 - Your sweet singing voice that sings all the wrong words.

8 - The way you ask "is this beautiful" when you've dressed yourself…

9 - And the little "thanks" you give when I say yes even though it doesn't match at all!

10 - The 800 good night hugs and kisses you give when you are trying to stall at bedtime.

11 - How you pick the same books to read every single night.

12 - Your love for Dancing with the Stars and all things pretty, glitzy, and dancing!

13 - How you tell me "because sometimes I'm just shy. I don't know why." when I ask you why you are so quite at dance class.

14 - The way you talk to the babies like you are grown!

15 - But most of all, how sometimes you just want your Mommy.
She is such a beautiful and loving little girl with a huge heart and even bigger imagination and I pray she always stays that way!  I know I can't stop her from growing up but I just pray I cherish every moment of it!

Top 100 Novels of all Time

I am so excited about this new project I have for myself! I am on a mission to read the 100 greatest books of all time. You know the ones that everyone always talks about, quotes from, and looks at you stupid when you don't know what they are talking about? I have read a few of them but I am starting all over and reading every one of them.
I fell in love with a few of them in high school (The Grapes of Wrath, To Kill A Mockingbird) during summer reading and can't wait to read those again, but I am also super excited about discovering some of the other great classics that I have never read. My goal is at least two books a month. At that rate, I can finish the list in about 4 years and still have time to read a few other trending books in between. Here is the list I am going by. http://thegreatestbooks.org/

When I Googled the 100 greatest novels a ton of different lists came up. Most of the lists were decided by one or two people and had several different "rules". But this site took several lists and weighted them and such to determine the greatest books of all time. My goal is the top 100 fiction books but this site actually has over 1200 books listed so pretty sure that will last me until my nursing home days!
I started with Hucklberry Finn and so far I am looooving it! I read it when I was younger but all I remember is trying to understand the dialect it was written in and obviously didn't appreciate it! But I have just fallen in love with little Huck Finn and Jim and find myself getting so tickled at them. I now see why it is a classic and why Dr. Cross, my English Literature teacher at Calhoun, loved Mark Twain so much!

Girls Trip!

I had sooo much fun this weekend with my "Houn" girls! Several of us that played softball together at Calhoun took a weekend beach trip to Ft. Walton. It was so nice to get together with these girls. They are the girls that even when we don't talk everyday or see each other for months we can get together and pick right back up like we never missed a day together! It was sooo nice to do nothing but be with my friends on the beach for a few days reminiscing about some of the most fun times of our lives and talking about our kids, husbands, and jobs.  I hope we can do this every year! Love my Houn girls!

Journals for my Girls

I bought each of the girls a little journal that I write little notes and things to them in every once in awhile.  I just write them little letters about what is going on in our lives and Bible verses and prayers for them and such.  I have a huge fear of something happening to me and I want them to have this little piece of me always so they can always go back and have a little piece of me in their journals.  I write in them every few weeks so we can look back and capture these precious little moments in their lives that go by way too fast!  I hope their journals are as special to them as they are to me one day!

Sometimes it scares me to death when I think about raising little girls!  But I pray often for guidance and control.  I just pray my girls and I grow up to have a special relationship like I do with my mom!  I am so very thankful for her!

Woah Wait Walmart

I just recently discovered this awesome Instagram! They post really great stuff they find at Walmart such as clothes, accessories, and home decor! And most of the time they post exactly what it is and the price so you can find it for yourself. They also have a blog to!

We had a great vacation at the beach last week! For the last several years we have gone down to Orange Beach with Jay, Heather, and Eli for the 4th and this year we took Alli with us to. The weather was absolutely perfect! It never even clouded up at all! We stayed at a condo on the beach and it was so nice to just walk out the back and be at the beach. Heather and Jay took a tent down so it was great to give us a little extra shade on the beach until a mini tornado came out of nowhere and destroyed it on the last day. We all had a blast playing in the sand, swimming in the pool, and eating lots of really good food! The girls loved spending some time playing with their cousins and we all loved some time away from our daily routine of work, daycare, and chores!

How sweet to hold a newborn baby.

How sweet to hold
A new born baby
And feel the pride
And joy he gives
But better still
The calm assurance
That child can face uncertain days because he lives!

I am so glad we finally got to meet baby Harper! Oh my goodness I always forget how little newborns are!  They are so tiny and precious.  I love holding little bitty babies so much but it makes me miss my babies being so little!  I love my girls at every stage and love each stage more than the one before but I will always miss those newborn baby days!

Please ignore our nappy hair and pj's in these pics!

3 Day Cleanse

Since I'm pretty sure I gained about 100 pounds at the beach this last week I figured I needed to do something before I head back to the beach with my girlfriends in a few days... Especially if I plan to lay on the beach without my moomoo on! So I found this cleanse on Pinterest I am going to try for a few days before I go! This shake sounds delicious and easy! I am going to go ahead and bag up the ingredients so all I have to do is throw them in the blender in the mornings. I make two batches each morning and have one for breakfast (after my coffee of course 😳) and take one for lunch. For supper, I try to have a low calorie meal with extra veggies.  I plan to do this for three days in a row and hope to see some decent results before I have to try to embrace my bikini again.. Good thing I've still got my mom suit on backup if I need it!

- 2 Handfuls Spinach
- 1 Apple
- 1 Banana
- 1 cup of yogurt
- 5 strawberries
- 1/2 Orange

Happy Baby Day!

Congratulations to our neighbors/friends Josh and Chelsey on the birth of their sweet baby girl Harper Elaine!  I am so excited for them!  For the past four years, we have been the only ones in our close group of friends to have kids and I feel like my girls have so many "aunts" and "uncles."  I am so excited some of our close friends are going to get join us on this wonderful journey of parenthood!  I can't wait for our girls to all grow up together and be friends and play together... lots of days full of play dates, tea parties, Barbie dolls, and princesses in our future!!!

I am so sad we couldn't be there but I can't wait to get my hands on her in a few days! And I know two little girls that can't wait to meet their new bestie!

Just Beaching

I love the beach! Orange Beach is by far my favorite vacation spot!

We have been coming here for years! I love the simple routine we get in here with late mornings sleeping in, laying and playing on the beach all day, eating lots of really good food, and staying up late at night!

The girls always have the best time on vacation to!

Book Suggestion - Gone Girl

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
Oh My Goodness - this was definitely one of the best books I have read in awhile!  It is a pretty long book but a great thriller/suspense read.  It's about a rich beautiful couple and is written from both of their point of views... She goes missing, he is suspected of killing her, and then you think you figure it out.. but oh no you don't... the author throws in something new and crazy and you are on the edge of your seat again trying to figure out what is going to happen next!  The language in it is a little vulgar and it's one of those books that jumps around a lot from him to her and through time but it is definitely my favorite summer read so far.  Too bad I have to wait until October before the movie comes out (PS - Ben Affleck plays the husband in the movie).
