It's been a really long time since I've done a book post. To tell the truth, my reading game has been pretty slacking the past several months. But I picked up a book a few weeks ago that I just couldn't put down and it reminded me just how much I enjoy a good book!
When Joy Came to Stay by Karen Kingsbury
Kingsbury is one of my all time favorite authors. Her books are faith filled stories and almost always have a good ending. This one was about a women who seemed to have it all together and her battle with depression that led her to a mental breakdown. The story follows her journey and her husbands attempt to find answers to what is really going on. It also follows the journey of a little girl lost in foster care and is full of both heart ache and joy. I really loved that this book touched on that fact that depression is a serious illness and affects all sorts of people.
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle
If you have turned on the television anytime in the past few months, I am sure you have seen lots of previews for the new A Wrinkle in Time movie starring some pretty big names. I read the book back in middle school but didn't remember a ton about it. I wanted to reread it in anticipation of taking my girls to see the movie. However, after reading the book and hearing a few reviews of the movie, I think it is a little too scary and dark for them right now. However, I did really enjoy the book and would rank it as one of the better children's novels that I can remember reading. The story is a little strange at times but I love the characters so much and the way it really makes me stretch my imagination. I may have to sneak off by myself sometime and catch a bit of the movie.
