Realigning my running goals...

So I know I said it was one of my goals to run a half marathon this year... and well that just ain't gonna happen.  I totally underestimated the time commitment to train for a half and right now, I just really don't have the time to do it. 

I realized that I only get about 48 non-sleeping hours with my husband and kids a week and I just don't really like giving up a ton of those to go run.  Yes, I could technically take them with me, and I do some, but they are usually good for a total of about 10 minutes before they decide they rather be doing something else than sitting in a stroller.   And yes, I could get up earlier but I already get up before the sun and way earlier is just not an option for me.  And Saturdays... well I just don't like to set the alarm on Saturday so that's my excuse for that one!

So there are my excuses for giving up on my half marathon for now... I am not totally giving up on this goal and it is still near the top of my bucket list but for my life right now, it's just not possible to prepare for it without giving up some precious other moments in my life that I don't want to part with!  I have really slacked on my running this summer and I think it is because I kinda knew in the back of my mind that a half wasn't going to happen and I honestly just got frustrated and feeling sorry for myself. And it has been super hot!! I don't have the time right now to run miles and miles and miles each day, but I do have the time to run a 5k almost every single day! It only takes about 30 minutes and can be done without having to give up much, if any, time with my kids!  

So with that being said... I am just replacing my half marathon goal with a new goal!  I really want to run at least ten 5K races this year.  Races keep me motivated and keep me moving!  So far, I have finished 4 and I am registered for 4 more in the next couple of months.  I have a few options for the other two but it is all definitely doable!    

So there you have it.  And just like that, I have a new goal!  So let's get running!
