To my babies on the night before school....

To you my little baby on the night before Kindergarten....  How is this possible that my last born heads to big school?  I cannot wait to see you shine my little one.  I feel like I am a little more prepared to navigate these big school waters this time around but I have to remind myself that it is a whole new world for you in your little eyes.  New halls, new lunchroom, new people.

You say you are really excited but still a little nervous.  You have some sweet friends in your class and your best bud there too.  I want you to love every moment of school and be kind to everyone.  I want you to be a helper and a leader and do all the great things but I also want you to stay my little baby for all the days.

I pray that nobody laughs at you or hurts your feelings.  You march to your own drum and that is totally fine with me.  It’s okay to be different my baby.  I love that you are so free spirited and do your own thing and I pray you keep that quiet confidence and don’t let anyone take it away from you.  I know you are going to have the best year.  You’ve got an angel for a teacher and your sister right up the hall to take care of you.  But it still makes this mama heart a little sad to send you on your way.

And to you my big second grader… this year is so big for you.  You are confident and feel right at home on your old stomping grounds but you’ve got lots of new coming your way too.  You’ve got all new friends in your class but I know you will be A-okay. You make friends so easily and really get along with everyone and I can’t wait to see how you thrive.  You love being around everyone and everything and I know you will soak up every ounce of everything that goes on. I just pray nobody hurts you along the way.

You are so excited about your teacher and I know you will learn so much from her and entertain her a little bit on the way.  I feel like you are SUCH a big girl this year.  You have a real assignment notebook and are going to have real tests and grades.  It seems a bit overwhelming but I have full confidence that you are going to be super successful academically and learn all sorts of new things.

I am so excited for you both this week.  The excitement of new backpacks and supplies and new shoes and clothes is so fun.  And the anticipation of what the new year is going to hold fills you both until you are just about to explode with it.  You are both growing up so fast and I know you are going to do the most wonderful things!  You have each other and a whole load of people that love you and I just know you are both going to have the BEST year ahead!
